The guy "derrick" who does group buys on Z32 brake parts was going to make the brackets for S chassis cars, but there wasn't enough interest. I emailed him and he said if people really want them, he'll make them. I'd email him...I think we have 4 or 5 people who are really interested already. If he hears from enough people, he'll be motivated to make them.

Well, it looks like any source for these brackets, whether originally intended for Z32s or S13/S14, has disappeared. Does anyone have the Cobra rotors on an S chassis car?

i know what larger rotors do, i just didn't think a 13 was at all necessary outside of looks, as he mentioned, on an s-chassis that isn't pumping out, i dunno 800hp.

The person who originally sold them worked at z1 motorsports in georgia, ash or something. Check their website to see if he still makes something similar.
The most important reason to run 13" rotors in the front is that, teamed with the rear z32 brake setup, it yields almost identical proportioning front to rear as the stock brake setup. Last edited by Grandpa; 08-25-2005 at 03:56 PM.. |

There was a guy producing them om Maxima.org (I belive Jeff92se) but he said they wouldn't work for the 240sx. Not sure why, but I emailed him a while back asking since I use to have a Maxima.

I doubt that, im sure Nissan made all the ears the same for all chasis of teh same year more less to save on cost.
Its like all the the Q45/J30/G20/S13/S14 can all use eachothers front brakes interchangably because all the offsets and ears are the same until you get to the later years and even then I've read there still the same with the exception of 14mm caliper bolts versus the previous 12mm bolts or somehting like that.

Im pretty much over getting the Cobra brakes now anyways not to big on getting hub centric rings, I can settle with 12.5" that should be plenty noticeable over the 11".

if your goign to use vr4 rotors dont get xdrilled ones. get blanks or slotted... read about it on tt.net almost everyone that has used vr4 rotors has had them crack or fuck up. thats why they dont sell the brackets anymore

13" rotors have some advantages, as mentioned; the bias with Z32 rears is pretty close to stock, whereas Z32 all aroudn has a decent amount more rear bias than stock. Also, running giant brakes can let you run cooler pad temps and therefore more streetable pads. Plus, they look good. I'd rather run a pad like Hawk HP+ or Ferodo DS2500 all the time on 13" rotors than throw in some Hawk HT10s at the track, eat up my rotors, and then put in streetable pads and rotors when I drive home. It depends what kind of driving you do as well; the track that I'll eventually be running at has faded some pretty serious brake setups on 240s, so I want to be prepared to deal with that.
Here's some info on the Z1 setup: Kit Includes: (2) 13" 2-piece rotors (2) Caliper relocating brackets Grade 9 fasteners Nismo 50mm wheelstuds Hubcentric locating rings Hubcentric spacing rings Installation manual $750 http://www.z1motorsports.com/product...roducts_id=141 ouch on the cost...that includes a lot though, and not everyone really wants to spend the money on 2 piece rotors. I just want the brackets and some hubcentric rings, the rest I can piece together myself for cheaper. |

presumably a 600hp car will have to stop a lot harder than a 150hp or 250hp one
even 3z brakes are probably excessive performance wise for many people, provided they are matched with good pads and 225 all around on a n/a KR car is just fine, probably even on a stock SR just get a stickier compound, instead of running a weaksauce daily driver tire like the ST115. but I don't drift, so I must not know anything about going fast. |

I didn't say anything about drifting. Look up Def's threads on FA about his experiences at Road Atlanta, which is the track I was talking about. He's been through several different pads on his Z32 setup and still has issues. He also runs giant Kumho MXs. Race tires would only exacerbate the brake problem.

Gotcha, thought that was a stab at me. He's actually got a SR on stockish boost, but same idea. And you're right, he spends a lot of time on the track. It's hard to figure out a good track setup for a S chassis car because the vast majority of owners are into either drag or drift. I actually wish there were more people taking their cars to road courses, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. So...in the meantime, we'll have to figure out how things work for ourselves.
Plus, big rotors look cool |
