ok this is actually a double question:
i bent the bracket where the lower control arm mounts. the screw no longer points front-back, its angled now :(
so the two questions are:
is this mounting bracket part of the front crossmember (FSM and looking at my car seem to suggest so)?
and are s13 and s14 front cross members the same?
time to get this drift damage fixed :(
thanks

They're not identical due to PS line attachment points, but either one will bolt in to either car.

but the lower control arm pickup point is the same?
how far off is the power steering lines?
and the rack mounts in the same spots right?
thanks

Christ, if you wanted to second guess me, why'd you even ask for help in the first place?
If the pickup and mounting points were different, why would I say it would bolt in?
ONLY THE PS LINE ATTACHMENT POINTS ARE DIFFERENT.

sorry d00d, didnt mean to second guess you or anything. sometimes people say simple explanations that DONT mean the obvious. like maybe it will bolt up but the pickup point isnt the same, and you just didnt mention that. i really just wanted to be explicitly sure that everything is indeed the same.
seriously man thanks for the help. no offense for reals, i mean you're the only person to answer my question!!!!! and thanks for the bold clarification!

hey thanks for the bunk advice......NOT
IDIOT!!!!!
s13 and s14 crossmembers are INDEED different. BLATANTLY OBVIOUSLY different, if you have them in front of you! so apparently you've never had both in front of you, yet you speek as gospel!
seriously dood, the power steering line mounting brackers are indeed different....but the engine mount tower is COMPLETELY different. on the s13 it is taller, making the motor sit higher; as well as not being blended with the mounting tabs (where the 2 nuts go on each side).
so yeah its not JUST the power steering line brackets....its the motor mount towers!!!!
furthermore if you call a nissan dealership they will tell you that all s14 crossmembers are the same part number, while s13 crossmembers differ in part number.
......
unfortunately for me i didnt find this out until AFTER i bought an s13 crossmember from pick-n-pull and tried to put it on my s14 kouki. then had to goto the local nissan wrecker and buy a s14 crossmember ('95).
kinda sux that i should have to triple check your statements :(
...
whatever i learned a valuable lesson...think about ways that you can solve the problem yourself......like calling the dealership. just seemed easier to ask the collective knowledge of zilvia........but apparently not everyone can be trusted :(

hmm, so a s14 cross member would lower my motor? i got one form a 95 in my garage and i compared it to a 92 and didnt see any difference, i ll have to check that out again., i know the racks are suspsoed to be didferent or mount different

ill take pictures tomorow or something since i have my slightly bent s14 kouki crossmember sitting right next to this junkyard s13 crossmember.
as i stated above local nissan dealership (nismo) says that the 95-98 crossmember is the same part number, while the s13 (even 93) crossmember is a different part number.
the crossmember is basically a lower suspension piece (lower control arm pickup point, and steering rack mounting spot), plus towers where the motor mounts rest. the towers between s13 and s14 are substantially different. this also affects the power steering line mounting tabs. not only are the tabs different but the mounting location of the tabs is different as well.
i have no idea if the s14 rack fits properly in s13 crossmember as i didnt even try it.
i can verify that a 95 crossmember fit perfectly in my 97.
so yeah thats the real FIRSTHAND knowledge :)
edit: ps- the reason why you cant see the difference is that its the towers for the motor mounts that are different, and those are very hard to see while the crossmember is bolted to the car.
pss- if you change the crossmember, when you put the rack in leave the rack loose until AFTER you get the steering column u joint on the rack. THEN tighten the rack according to FSM procedure.

dude that really sucks that you had to go through all that trouble. I like to cross reference statements with published data (or 100% trustworthy data) just for peace of mind, especially for a major suspension piece such as the cross member.

i got one of each on the floor but i never really looked that close to them.
I bent mine also when I got attacked from the curb but I still run the car I need to take it too an alignment shop though.

ryan: yeah check them out you'll see how the there is basically a tower welded on to the suspension portion of the crosmmember, and how the towers are different height and different angle and how the s14 tower blends nicely into the 4 mounting holes where the s13 is more attached to the bottom. it will be easy to see in the pics i post later today.
chuy: yeah you might want to fix that. for my curb sufring i went pretty sideways into the curb at idk 35mph. on mine it slotted the rear lca hole on the crossmember. and im talking about MAJOR slotting. its like over 2 holes wide back there. i'll try to get pics to show you! this is in addition to almost breaking the lca in 2 piece, in addition to ovaling the tension rod (where the liquid bushing goes in), in addition to bending the crossmember back, in addition to bending the tie-rod in both weak places (the narrow part by the threads and the narrow part at the joint at the rack)....yeah i think that covers all the jacked pieces.
so yeah you prolly should take it apart and find out! its pretty damn easy to work on the front end of these cars!

I have a 93, 95, and 97 crossmember all sitting in the shop. They're all identical as far as bolt spacing and mount fitment. As I said the line attachment points are different. That's it.
I've put 13 racks into 14s, 14 racks into 13s, and one 14 crossmember into a 13.
Now it's possible that the 89-90 member is different than the 91-94, but my information is still correct with respect to DOHC members. And of course the part numbers are different, the parts themselves are different (line attachment points, remember). You can also use S13 mounts on an S14 and vice versa, so how could the member be different?
Your very best bet though to eleviate any future issues is to learn how to drive. Those of us with 13 years experience working on these cars and over 20 years driving experience can actually avoid hitting things. Just a thought.

^doesnt sohc and dohc share the same mm?
they share the same block, so ^what you're saying^ doesnt hold up, about the difference in crossmemberse between the 89-90 and 91-98
and i realized this is an old ass thread just now.
i apologize for digging. -_-;
