View Full Version : Jacking up a car with lowered w/aero.

Im sure you guys do this often. Im constantly putting my car up to swap wheel or putting in new parts... I have not yet installed my side skirts becuase theres a lot more work left to do.
The car is low as it is, takes two jacks...scissor to get it on the hyrdolic.
When i get my sides skirts mounted, they will be kinda permanent.
I tried getting a scissor j. under the car to the frame rail and lifting it a little to get the hydrolic jack in there with the sideskirts mocked up on the car.
I can figure out how im gonna get this thing up. I dont want to remove my aero side skirts and fb, its way to much work. And you always dont have blocks to drive on when your on the road.
Oh and to top it off, these side skirts cover or are way to close to the factory front fender jacking points...

Go to Home Depot.
Buy some 2x6 planks of wood.
Drive onto the planks.
Keep adding planks until car is high enough to get hydraulic jack under.
This should solve your problem, by only incresing the height of the car by 2 inches each time, you can gradually lift it to the level you need. Unlike store bought ramps, which are usually too steep for lowered cars.
As for when you are own the road...
You're screwed. :D

stack up small peices of wood like ramps for all four tires then drive up on the wood if u can get it high enough u should be able to use the jack with no problems.

Drive up on a wood block or two, and use the front tow hooks to jack the car up.
Bring a couple 2x4 blocks around with you.

Yeah, the wood was also what I was thinking.
Also, someone, one of the big JDM parts compaines, maybe cusco, makes a specially designed set of ramps for this. They're only like 2 inches up, and have a very gradual incline.

just build your own gradual incline ramps from wood.

ziptie the skirts on and bring extra zipties with you in your car. bring a cutter or something too.
everytime you need to jack up the car, cut the zipties and bam. jack it up. then ziptie it back on. waaa laaa
You can always jack up the car from the diff or tow hooks too.

^Yep, you can get them at Rare-Trick in the "Rare Items" section. I thought about getting some because those look much easier to store in a trunk than a splintering piece of wood but then again...$70? I'll just cover the wood with stainless or diamond plate or something. :)
EDIT: Oh, just remember, those of you using wood planks, if the tread on your tire hits a 2x4 (or some other measurement of wood) just right it will flip the plank up and possibly ruin your aero.

I wish I could fit a jack under my diff :(, even super low jacks don't work.
But like everyone has been saying either construct a little ramp out of wood and toss it in your back seat. Then drive on those and use your tow hooks. You should at least be able to get one side of the car up using one of the tow hooks.

ive got those Takata ramps and i still cant fit my car over that...
i have to take my bumper off, then use one of those low profile aluminum "race" jacks just to lift under the tow hook so i can fit my OTHER jack on the other tow hook. Then jack with the OTHER jack, take the aluminum race jack out, put under front crossmember and jack it there.....
it's alot of work for being low and with aero kit, but is the only way for me....
if i were to stack up wood, i would not have enough room to drive straight onto it since i would literally have to stack it to about 15-20 feet
just ziptie your bumpers on when you know you're going to have to change wheels often....or just leav it on for easier access when doing oil change/radiator flush, change suspension settings, etc..

i stick the factory jack under the specified location to lift the front up a lil, then remove my bumper (via screws and zipties) and then stick a floor jack under the front cross member...

my front bumper and side skirts sit 3inches from the ground so trying to fit a jack under there is almost impossible. what i do is drive each tire up on 2x4's then use the diff to jack up the car! and if i need the front up, i use the rad support!

NO NO NO
you did it all wrong.
The correct setence should read,
thats hella work, just to get ur car raised.
Now that we've got that out of the way...
4x4's and raise it from the tow hooks; works for me.
Or just 4x4's and with a low-profile jack I can actually squeeze under the cross member.

Scroll down to the middle of the page....Item 6001...Low Profile Jack Ramps. Don't matter how low your car is, these babies will raise your car enough to easily get a jack underneath. And because they are made out of plastic, they weigh about 2-3 pounds each, (maybe less..I haven't weighed them cuz they are that light), easily fit in the trunk of your car, and will last a lifetime.
These things were worth every penny I spent on them.

HELP! I lowered my daily driver too much to do anything to it at all.
No pity. Raise up your car if it's that bad. And if you need to consult 25 other people on Zilvia, it is that bad.
Other people - John - with the showcar hotness.. who needs 2x4s to leave his driveway is acceptable. It's a showcar.
People with ultralow 240s need to buy trucks and an issue of lowrider.

if you're carrying scissor jacks and a hydraulic jack around with you i don't see why you would find lugging wood planks around a problem! either raise your car or get a low pro jack as stated. btw snap a pic for us too see exactly how low you are :)

its not touching the ground its just problems getting a jack under coz the sideskirts cover the OE jacking points
I guess Ill have to bring along some planks to drive on.

the wood method works well. i prefer drilling screws into the wood if u plan on stacking so that they dont slide out from underneath eachother... jus a safety precaution. also.. be careful when puttin wood underneath ur rear wheels...ur car is gonna wanna shoot that thing out from underneatht the tires.

hmm...well while this thread is revived again...when i need the rear up in the air i roll it up some ramps. the ramps don't work on the front though because they get caught on the front bumper. so i've been taking off my bumper every time i need the front up in the air.
Everyone's got it all wrong. Just install hydraulics! Than you can lift each wheel individually. :D

Actually, it is. Where else are you going to jack it up by? On a slammed car even with a low profile jack, you can't get the jack under any sturdy spots under the car. My frame rails are probably about 3.5 inches above the ground. Unless you feel like throwing down mad money on those super expesive race jacks that are designed to go under anything, you pretty much have to jack the car up by the toe hooks. Just don't leave the car sitting on the toe hooks for long periods of time and it's fine.

that or just drill the concrete in your garage, place some concrete support anchors, then add your wood blocks on top and bolt it down to the ground. no movement or worries when driving up on the wood blocks, plus you can remove the blocks whenever you want to.
the end.

i have always jacked up my car from the toe hoods
its a great spot to do it at for very low cars.
i wouldnt do it anywhere else
now if i was WORKING under the car, id jack up off the toe hook and then put out jackstands of cousre
but if im just chaning a wheel or something at the track, ill jack it up of the tow hook and do the work.
i cant fit the stock scisssor jack under the frame its too low, so i have to drive onto about 4" of wood and then put a little ramp thingy under one wheel and then drive on that to get a standard jack under it.
stock 91-93 bumper with no lip is 3.5 fingers off the ground..its kina low

ToeHook Jackingpoints. It works, its a TOE HOOK, won't snap on you.
Best bang for buck is the wood planks. or someone you really love. And just roll on top of them.

Yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought some 3/4 inch compresed board for like 2.00 that was about 30x50 inches and I had the guy cut it up into 8 pieces that were about the width of the tires and had each one cut 3 inches longer than the next one but so every two were the same size so I would end up with two sets that made a gradual increase in height.
What I did was stack each set like stairs but with the backs of the boards all even so only the front looks like stairs and nail each set of four boards together, you might need more or less boards depending on the height of your car/bumper so make sure and measure your clearance so you know what thickness of boards to buy So you can add or subtract as you need to, I have only about a 1/2 inch before the top of the board touches underneath my front bumper and then I was able to just drive right up on them with enough room to slide my cheapy 2 ton hydraulic jack underneath my car.
With the per cut charge and the board I made two ghetto ramps for only $5.00 :) One day I might make them over again with better wood and make each board longer so I have more room so I dont drive all the way over them, I had to have someone tell me when to stop so I didn't go over. The top board ended up being about 8x8.

i realized why the guys w/ the S13's have such low cars
their wheels are too fucking small
on my S14, i'm running 225/45/17's up front and i had the tires tucked inside the fender, and i STILL had space to jack it up decently...i just had to pull the front bumper first
and right now in the rear i'm running a 215/45/17 and i can fit a conventional (not low race style) floor jack under the diff and i've got the tires flush w/ the fender right now...i'm about to go lower because i can

I saw it done on a Skyline somewhere, but I'm too lazy to check out my old pile of Jap Mags. wutever...raise the car a little, cant be that difficult...if you got springs and not coilovers, then ur fawked - hav a nice day every1. haha thats actually the reason i need to jack up my car, to adjust the damn spring perches AGAIN!!! i adjusted it a few months ago when i got my new tires (i adjusted while the shop had it jacked up hehe). then about a month later, my damn car is slammed again....sorry about getting offtopic, but is it a good idea to put locktite on the coilover threads so that the perches wont move?
