My car typically has water in it during the summer, when storing the car for the winter how necessary is it to add coolant to the car? Or is running the car to get it to operating temperature, then draining the water enough?

I live in northern Alberta where -25 C (-13 F) is not uncommon. It will be stored inside in an insulated garage, but won't have the heater running.

Thanks in advance!

I’d do a 50/50 coolant mix just to be safe

You mean draining the engine via the actual engine block drain plug? If so, I would say it is, even better if you blow some compressed air through the filler cap or radiator hoses just to make sure. Better than nothing for sure...
