Hello Everyone,

Anyone here running a 2JZ+ T56 Magnum in a S14? I'm leaning towards using Xcessive mounts because I hear they have good adjustability. I did some searching and there isn't much talk on this setup.

Looking for general info from users of this setup as I am going to start piecing the swap parts.

Does the shifter fit in the oem location? What twin disc clutches are you guys using? Favorite adapter plate for engine/trans?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

Vast majority on here are going to run the CD009. The CD009 is close in ratio to the V160 and the high revving 2jz can take advantage of the tight gearing.

The T-56 and its TR6060 (Magnum) successors are double over drive transmissions that are best suited for high torque applications.

A Magnum is also $3000 brand new with no bellhousing. A CD009 is only $1,600 new with bellhousing.

Used a CD009 is $500. A Magnum is still $2k.

I hear you on all those points. I really do like the pricing and gearing of the CD009 but they aren't bulletproof like a Magnum/V160 is. I've done research that states as long as you run around a 4.2 rear gear in the diff the gearing comes close to a normal 6spd supra turbo final drive.

With the CD009 I'd need to buy the $500 Serial 9 shifter relocation kit so that adds to the cost. I also will only buy a new tranny whether its CD009 or Magnum so I can know it's been taken care of.

I've heard concerns of the Magnum by design might not be able to handle 8500-9k shifts but it looks like Joel Grannas (3rd fastest 6spd supra 1/4 mile) who uses a Magnum is doing just fine.

There's a guy selling anew cd009 for 1,000 on the marketplace on here. I intended on purchasing it for my Lsx swap but fueled racing sent me back an email stating their experience with customer's cd009-lsx having failures over 500 ft lbs, as to why they no longer sell their cd009 kit for lsx swap. However, perfectly fine for 1J/2J owners and seems like the way to go if you can't get a v160

If I only wanted to roll race I'd be satisfied with the CD009. I do intend on hitting the drag strip every once in a while. Think I'd feel better with the Magnum.

To further answer some questions.

I run a McLeod RST in my Cobra w/ stage 2 T56. Zero slip, smooth shifting and it feels like a stock Honda clutch.

The clutches are only $700.

That's nice. I think I'm screwed with only being able to use a custom clutch made by clutch masters or so I read because of the custom flywheel needed. The twin disc option I would run comes out to like $2600:down:

The late model CD0009 boxes are fairly stout, we have a good amount running behind high HP SR's and I've seen many on various engines LSX, JZ, etc.

Yeah seems like everyone is trying to sway me towards the CD009 tranny. Even my ballin friend that has a new v160 siting on his garage floor says the CD009 will be a better fit for me.

Can't have them make a standard GM/Ford sized flywheel?! That sounds fucking stupid.
