Nice update. I am thoroughly enjoying this.

Even though my eyes bled when they saw those Rocket Bunny things I still think this Time Attack beast is so cool! Can't wait to see it rip!

I appreciate your honest opinion about the rocket bunny haha. I was actually in the same shoes until I was approached with them in a trade deal. it's funny because side skirts happened to shatter at buttonwillow last week. I guess it was never meant to be. I'll be keeping the front and throwing away the rear. may be it will be "Rocket" now :keke:

went back to bw and recorded pb before Christmas 2019. Suspension is getting close to where I want it, but there's still some minor changes to be made. sub50 was definately doable but I didn't push too hard.

That's fuckin awesome! Nice driving! Do you have any thoughts on the pros/cons of the 2JZ over the SR20? I may have missed it, but can you share a little more about the 2JZ setup, turbo, any cams or anything, and how do you like the AEM Infinity, how did tuning go?

Can't wait to see more of this beast in action!

Hi Nick,

My car with SR had 53/47 weight distribution and 2jz is 54/46. Too many variables have been changed to compare sr vs 2jz fairly.
I've also went from 2650lb semi track car(street class) to 2500lb full race car(limited class) stripping pretty much the entire car. But to summarize it, 2jz does not change the characteristic of the car as much as you would think. I've had LS, VQ, SR, KA in various s chassis and finally 2jz and I want to say it doesn't feel much different lol, well obviously besides the torque band and power delivery. To this day, if I have to choose a favorite engine in a s-chassis, It would have to be the SR. 1. it's light, 2. it's high revving, 3. it's cheap to build (up until you get to around 350hp), anything after this, I feel it gets as expensive as other engine choices. My decision of going 2jz was simple: ease of modding, reliability, and cost.

Forum doesn't allow long paragraphs anymore.. so much got deleted

part 2:

2jz(stock longblock), Comp Turbo 6267 Journal bearing, Injector Dynamics 1300cc injectors, AEM Infinity (love it! all the cool safety features and logging ability)

I'll be working on youtube dyno post shortly and will make sure to share here as well!

Did quiet a bit of work while covid shutdown..
the biggest weakness of the 2jz engine, i found out, was cooling. Well, 99% of cars out there with 2jz cooling issues are probably due to wrong fan sizing. However I was using a single 600w fan (that's 50amp!!) so I knew something else had to be wrong. I'm still working this, but I think I have narrowed it down to few areas. I worked on the venting of the air mostly.

Next up was oil. I noticed that Tomei Japan just released the oil baffle kit for 2jz in three different config(front, mid, rear sump). As you guys know, we are forced to use the front sump design on our cars regardless of the engine. (ls,2jz,sr,ka) I think this may cause some of low oil pressure situation when you are accelerating with high g corner as oil gets pushed to the rear leaving low oil on the front, where the sump pickup is located. I am monitoring the pressure with AEM infinity so I'll see if this baffle actually helps!

then the spoiler was next. I didn't measure the downforce of the rear but rear downforce did not feel direct and strong subjectively. Also the rear frame was super weakened after 30 years of driving and 3-4 years of tracking. so I decided to move it inward and apply direct downward force.

had to make sure the hatch closes. added two quick latch on top.

Next was fitting the bigger tire. I was running staggered setup(265,295) and really didn't like how it behaved. So I figured this was the perfect time to upgrade as I was determined to go full slicks. (was running 200tw before)

fitting 10.5 +25 in front

with 27 68 18 michelin slicks. which is like 275-285 40 18 equivalent.

At this point, I went to buttonwillow to test. found out the tires were rubbing at full lock :duh: I swear it didn't rub when I checked but somehow inner frame sheet unfolded in some area rubbing against the inner tire.. well long story short, I made a stupid mistake and wasted alot of money.. my instagram has the in-car video of what happened. you can see the wheels locking after countersteering :duh:

Below is arts and craft day before the track day.. now i go back to garage and fix more stuff.. lol

Dang dude, that's rough about the rubbing!! Hopefully you can get it sorted.

The stacked intercooler/rad setup with a vent out the hood is very similar to what I have planned for my "race car". Very cool to see it is indeed functional.

I see what you mean in your video about the staggered setup. Seems like it had some off throttle push?

Thank you! and yeah the suspension needs to be dialed in more and myself can use more seat time.. it behaves way different than before..
