First things first.

Background: This is my first SR and don't know too much about it. I bought the engine from an importer, to my knowledge everything worked, wired it up fine car turns over (needs to be timed to keep it running)

Problem: Whenever I turn the car on I'm greeted by a loud screeching noise sounds like coming from the tranny/ starter area. I'm not talking about a quick quiet noise but a loud screech kinda like a belt. It does not go away either it stays with there.

Suspicions: I noticed the starter engages when I just press the clutch down or I hear a whirling noise from that area just by pressing the clutch down and not turning the car on.

I'm not sure where to go about this any help is useful thanks!

Throwout Bearing Or Pilot Beat Bearing One of those but you should replace them.

Well which one is causing this problem and how is it making the screech?

If noise occurs with clutch pedal engaged, its the TOB

If noise occurs with clutch pedal at rest, in neutral, its the pilot bushing/bearing.

Engine running, obviously.

Doesn't matter, if your in there you should do both of them.

Yeah might as well do both if I have to change one. The noise comes from the clutch unpressed so it's not the TOB. Could it be any chance it's the starter? Like it isn't disengaging? I don't want to go through the hassle of taking off my tranny and not fixing the problem...

20+ year old motor... replacing the complete hydraulic assembly (TOB and Pilot bearing included) + clutch disc + flywheel + starter = excellent idea!

Credit card debt here I come :coolugh:

But really I'll start with the starter and if doesn't fix the problem the rest will follow! Thanks guys!
