Anyone have a suggestions how to go about this? I've been trying to use vin decoders and it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know if I can look around the bay for anything visual that may tip me off?:picardfp:
Car is a 89 240
Edit: Did more research on the computer and not on my phone and found the correct results.
It's not in the VIN, but it is in the ID plate. It's the silver plate on the firewall under the hood. Third line down "Model," the code is broken up like this:
sample:
12345--67 (location)
RMLKS13FU (data)
1: R = Fastback, nothing = Coupe
2: M = KA24DE engine. SOHCs have a different letter
3: L = Left hand drive, R = RHD
4: K = HICAS, nothing = non-HICAS
5: S13 = Chassis
6: F = Manual, A = Automatic
7: U = 49 State, V = California, N = Canada

Well being that most swaps aren't that cleanly done check your firewall where the holes for the clutch pedal and master cylinder are made. If they look rough you have a swapped car.

I assume its a manual now, are there a bunch of spare plugs down under the trans? Is the brake pedal an auto pedal cut in half? By the battery on the inner fender area is there a blue clutch interlock relay (if not it was an auto)? Looks like this...

If it was an auto, youll have a little "O/D OFF" orange light thing on the right side of the dash under the gauges... Its shown here right next to the windshield wiper handle and left of the rear defroster button...

That's not a great indication. I always ditch that OD light on any car I swap.

I agree, rarely do you see a clean hole and even when you do no one ever bothers to repaint them.

Mine is not a perfect hole but its also not a few holes drilled and beaten out with a hammer like you see quite often.

Eh, just one possible indication. I gave a few others that dont involve trying to remove the master cylinder.

We said look.... You don't have to remove it... From in the bay it can be seen or peeping under the dash

Why is this an on going argument? None of these possible indication areas anyone has listed are sure fire.

Previous owner swapped over a 5 speed brake pedal. Also where the fuse box is they had the jumper harness that is required when converting the auto to 5 speed. The OD button was there too...

On Hicas models f you're referring to what I think you are that's an indicator for whether or not that's working right.
