Hey guys quick question. Just picked up a 95 s14 that had eaten a valve appearantly. messed up the spark plug and shut off immediately according to PO. I was planning to take the head off to swap over another head if the block wasnt damaged. First off, f**k nissan and their manifold design for this motor. My question is this. Can i take the head off with the manifold still on it? i just took the harness off and valve cover and was wondering if i can do that to make this process quicker. also any hidden lines i should be aware of if i can take it off while on the head? Thanks in advanced! I searched but couldnt find much.

......... smh , plain lazy it's not hard at all to remove the manifold , if you can't remove the manifold chances are you can't swap the head or set timing

Its not being lazy, first time doing it and would rather take it off with the head that way i can see exactly what im doing when its off the car. If it cant be taken off eith it i have no problem taking the mani off while on the car

Why not try it and see. If something looks to be in the way, back track and try again.

There is a coolant line that goes from the upper manifold to the lower manifold then from the lower manifold to heater core. Also there is a bracket from the engine to the lower manifold that must be removed if it hasn't already. You're really asking to make this a pain in the nuts by not removing the manifold. Also the pcv to pcv tree has to be disconnected. You'll need to disconnect the tube from pre TB that goes to the IACV/aac

^ ^ the KA engine. Let me say that one time, about a year ago, I thought to myself, "Hey, its pretty easy to change a fuel rail on an sr, it should be pretty easy to change on a KA as well..."
And so I bought a spare rail with injectors and went outside to do it..
the engine at one of my sockets after about 30minutes and I decided not to do it after all :D Went back to my sr after that haha

But once you delete all that nonsense
Bypass the lower manifold completely
Get rid of the bracket
Have 1/4 drive with swivel sockets it's really easy
