sr20 lifter knock

Hey guys I have a s13 with a s14 sr20det and last year I bleed the lifters for noise on start up. They had fair amount of air in them but not too bad. After installing them back in first start up was fine but soon after noise was back especially when the oil is warmed up knocking would get quiet loud and last 20-30 seconds if I tap the gas few times it goes away sooner. What else can I do to fix the lifter noise? I was thinking of installing a fuel pump switch so I can crank the engine without starting it to prime the oil. Or should I switch to a thicker oil I am currently running mobil1 synthetic 5w30 I live in vegas where summers are 100+ degree. Any help would be appreciated.

small update i re-bleed all the lifters 4 or 5 had some air in them but on lifter #4 on exhaust side was very difficult coming out not seized but hard coming out. I rubbed it with some emery cloth it didn't help much. The hole where the lifter goes in i rubbed it as well. What i did is swap it with #3 and they both go in and out fine so i will try that for now hopefully no tapping.

everything is put back together there is still noise present sounds like rattle or pinging coming from front of the engine timing chain area or 1st cylinder anybody please need help asap

I was having similar problems that was driving me crazy i replaced my vtc cam gear still did it untill i deleted the vtc cam gear replaced it with a tomei adjustable one and problem went away ........dont replace the vtc cam gear with another oem just delete the dam thin

Does that eliminate vtc?
I read someone with similar issue the timing chain was slapping on guide on top of the cover caused by worn chain guides or worn tensioner.

If you can replace the VTC gear with a new unit, do it. It is an extremely valuable function on these motors. Don't listen to the donks here that don't understand a damn thing. Low end trq is created by the VTC gear, without it your car doesn't make near the power it was designed to.

first verify if the vtc gear is to blame. You can unplug the solenoid and see if it makes a difference, especially when cold.

Unplugged the solenoid noise is still present bleed the lifters again no air it's driving me nuts it's not a daily but would like to drive it every day removed the chain bracket noise still there not sure what it is anymore

I've read few threads with similar noise lot of them being the vct gear one guy got a rebuild kit for it but I searched for it can't find one everybody wants to sell me the whole gear which is $400+ which is way too much

You're best bet is to find someone parting a VTC motor and buy it from them. They generally go for about $150.
