Thank you

Btw I did lots of searching but most just point to a belt. This is deff not a belt... sounds like a damn supercharger whine....
and the smoking is external. Its the paint burning off the exh mani. Not coming out exhaust at all

Ok...... so I just thought of something.....
I have a 5spd rb25 trans with no fluid in it as im still waiting on my drive shaft.
So even with the car in nuetral, if thengine is running and the clutch pedal isnt pressed down, that means the transmission is still turning right. Its just not in gear

Could this be the noise

Are you sure that bov is sealing off. Ive had cheap ebay bovs leak a bit and squeal just like that. Maybe a boost leak on the intake somewhere as well.

Yeah, I notice when you depress the vacuum signal (hit the gas pedal) the noise dissipates... pointing to the the bypass...

HOPE its the bypass ! Good call :D

Checking intake mani again also and iac valve also.
Thanks all!! Much appreciated zilvia.net

by the way, grats on the fresh swap. You did it by yourself? with your own tools and lift etc.. ? What about the wiring?

Always curious to know how people are doing these things :D

Also be warned, as long as it is leaking, your engine is running rich. Rich enough to ruin your fresh plugs. So get it plugged, or fixed, or tightened, or recirculated, asap. A sock and some duct tape if nothing else.

Thanks so much. Yes absolutely. I want this running 100% before I even attempt to install the drive shaft and take it for its first spin.

And yes to all the above. Pretty fun stuff minus the wiring. Ended up buying lower harness from WS. Saved a ton of headache. The repinning was no big issue.

I had a thread going for a while in the builds section. Havent updated in a while tho.

That most definitely sounds like the transmission bushings and bearings being ground into a metal salad. The dull, deep whine (like straight-cut gears) sounded like the gears have already heated enough to form an irreversible wear pattern. Put some oil in it, hopefully it didn't get hot enough to permanently damage the gears. If so, you'll be buying a new transmission :-/

Did another quick startup and idle. Then took a snap of my gauges.
cheap boost/vacuum guage but shows 10 inhg which I think equals 4 psi vacuum based on the conversion.
oil psi is steady at 55psi.
I dont think its transm. Becuase sometimes it boggs down and when it does sounds stops for a sec or 2.
when I give it any kind of throttle it stops for a sec.
Inside the car gave it a quick bump on the peddle and gauge goes to 0psi. no vacuum no boost
during a quick idle, I was trying to narrow down area.
I put my hand and some weight on fuel rail and it went away for like 10 secs. then came back....
I removed entire rail and reinstalled. No luck.
then I got real close and it sounds like its directly in the middle under the fuel rail right where the IAC is..
I pinched the line coming from intercooler pipe to iac and it bogged down but did not change sound.

You 'don't think' it's the transmission? Start the engine and depress the clutch. When the input/counter shafts stop spinning and you still hear the squealing noise, you'll 'know' it's not the transmission. You do have oil in it by now, right?

I am so confused why you do not simply stick a sock and some tape into the (#*(@*# blow off valve and avoid all this diagnosis posting online trial and error etc....

Or just unplug the vacuum line.
Or stick your hand over it to shut it up.

You have 3 very nice quick easy ways to diagnose this issue and instead you are removing the fuel rail and looking at gauges?

Put a condom on your BOV.

Ok. Absolutely NOT bov. I removed bov completely and blocked port. Still no change in sound.
not transmission. Installed clutch line and bled, and when clutched is pushed in. Still same sound

And again its on the intake side..... I know you cant tell from vid, but I can deff here it coming from intake side.
and its odd that no change in sound speed nor does the pitch get higher as rpms do?!?

Idle air controller leak or gasket?

Found it.....
injector insulator/cushion leaking from injectors.
After looking at it, I reused the original o seals from the stock intake mani as they seemed ok. Apparently they were not and also the spot where they rest wasnt quite smooth either (freddy intake).
Replaced those and engine runs smooth and quiet
