a shortblock is usually just the block itself with internals assembled. a longblock is generally the short block with the heads and maybe [a] cam/s.
this should cover every motor from the KA's to a 302's.

OoOoOh, thanks for the fast response. For a sec there, i thought it was something like Chevy's Big block and Small block. haha

yah dont confuse it with that, I always confused big/small with short/long for the longest time till i asked someone.

I am still am...and the place I got to work on my car where my uncle works is a hot rod/body shop. He's always telling me that there is a small block chevy going in that car...etc.... They had 2 70's? (can't remember) Camaro's in there one with a 454, sweet looking too. And the other had a blower, car was in for paint. Got pictures of the 454 Camaro (sp?) :D

small block ford = 302
small block chevy = 350
big block ford = 351
big block chevy = 454
it just depends on the company.
long block and small block are terms for what's pre-assembled.
