The car sounds terrible, ignore the squeeling of the belts and stuff in the video and listen for the sound when the car first starts, it sounds like marbles in a tin can, like how someone would describe a bad timing chain. I pulled off the valve cover before the video and the upper timing chain and the guide looked like new, no scars still lots of life left. Also I know in the video I am missing the front two valve cover bolts, they are back on now. The motor was recently rebuilt by car repair doctors of st charles Missouri. Also the car was low on oil, not terribly low just on the low side so I added some and it helped silence it. The sound was much louder before. Any ideas? I'm still thinking something with the timing chain....

Honestly its a little hard to tell in the video, but FYI im not sure if ur aware but thier is 2 timing guides. If u have the time i would recommend taking out both then ull have ur answer. The top one and one by the distributor its really not hard of a job maybe 1hour? Since u dont have a clutch fan.

Any reason in particular that it was low on oil? Doesn't honestly sound like knock from the video, but a compression test/leak down test would tell you for sure. Does the chain feel loose. Could possibly be the tensioner loosing pressure/bad as it was low on oil.

Pulled the valve cover and front timing cover, this is what I saw. Missing the top and right guide. I will drop the oil pan and look for pieces of it in there, but as for now where can I buy the two guides from? I heard there was a recall on the top guide because it came loose and fell off on most ka's, is this true?

Yea droping the ka oil pan isnt fun jus to let u know from experience if the motor is in the car.
And usually if the chain is hitting the guide it can be a result from old/stretched chain. Just like mine i removed the bottom one its been 20,000 miles and i havnt had a problem.

Its because my motor was just rebuilt by a shop and had a new timing chain put in, anyone know where I can buy the guides from?

To Newkid99: It may be best to leave the guides out, I removed mine due to the rattling I was getting and after searching forums I found out it was the thing to do.....

Really? the chain won't hit the valve cover or anything without the guides? If that's true then maybe this isn't where the rattle is coming from. Maybe I should look into the bottom timing chain and see how the guides there look.

I read up a little bit, I will just try heavier oil and see what happens because I have been running 10w-30.
