I am in Canada with limited data working from a phone so I can't really search.
Hoping you all could help.

I just bought a 1966 Datsun 1600. I am looking to put an s15 in but don't know what cars they came in.
Did they only put them in cars for the Japanese market? Will I have to import one?

You sound confused.

S15 is a chassis code of the car that replaced the S14 Silvia.

From your rather unintelligible post, I gather you are looking for the engine of an S15 Silvia, which would be the SR20DET.

If this is correct, it was never sold in North America, and you will have to import one.

What other engines came in the s15?

The sr20det came in s13, s14, and s15 correct? We're any of those in American market cars?

The sr20de is the same engine minus a turbo right?

You seriously need to do a lot of research my friend..a lot! But no the sr20det did not come in the USA..

SR20DE in general is the same as the SR20DET, except compression and such is higher.

No SR20DET's were sold in the USA. FWD SR20DE's were sold in USA but in FWD cars.

Best bet, get a S14 SR20DET. They are fairly cheap now.

Thank you for the informative post without the snide remarks.

What is the difference between the red top and black top?

Black top came in later year 180sx, the motors are pretty much identical but a black top will be newer than a red top

Look man everybody's been at this point sometime not knowing much about the s-chassis also but you can't just make a new thread asking questions that a google search couldn't tell you..with a more detailed and faster response also. I simply typed "sr20det" in google and this is the first link

Tapatalk is about the most I can get on not so frequent occasions.

I figured I would get some informative replies that I could pass on to some friends in order to start looking for an engine.

Then pay someone to search for you. Why the hell should be do your every research ? because YOU can't spare time to get a computer and hit google ? Seriously what is the next step, telling us to source an SR20DET and install it in your car for free ?

Because I figured someone on this board already had the knowledge and wouldn't have to search.

This is one hell of a welcome to your community.

I am a long time member on a few boards and I would never have treated a new member this way.

I apologize for bothering you all and will search on my own in a few weeks.

Thanks to those of you who responded with kindness

hey dude never mind the keyboard warriors. a quick search on google will give you all the info you need, but ill break it down for you quick :)

180sx/s13 = came with a non vvt engine, red top is earlier, black top is later, some consider thiss the best sr20 to tune. also it wont ever get vvt rattle. has a straight cam. engine came with the smaller t25g turbo

s14 = vvt engine , came with t28 turbo, approx 200bhp

s15 = vvt engine, came with ball bearing t28 turbo (except for later models which got cermaic, also jap s14s came with ball bearing turbos also) , stock power is 250bhp, came with bigger injectors (480cc at 4 bar)

thats the basics!

unfortunatly america and canada didnt get these engines , and you guys didnt get s15's. s15's are awesome to drive btw, i loved mine

If that is the best advice you can give on this forum there is room for improvement.

Thank you sir. I will do a more thorough search when I return home. I just wanted to try and get some basics so my brother and friends can keep an ear out back home.

I have no data on the phone, no laptop, and very limited wifi at the moment.

Any good sources to purchase one of these engines in the states?

I can happily send you one for 15K€; add another 6K for a Z33 6 spd conversion.
Seeing as you can't be bothered, i might as well try getting some money out of you before someone else rips you off.

A motor set can be found from one of our Forum sponsors. Had you searched, you'd already have that information though.

Don't get butt hurt because someone tells you to search. This forum has a lot of members and these questions get asked more often than not. No one here is going to spoon feed you. You will not learn, unless you read through the information yourself. Please take some of it with a grain of salt, as there can be conflicting information from time to time.

Very basic questions are going to result in the responses above, get use to it.

Really tho man? It is. The problem is everyone sees a million mindless threads like this a day. It's just clutter. I'm giving you advice on how not to get flamed on this forum. Your question could've been answered faster than it took you to log onto zilvia by using google. Next step would be the search bar, then small questions thread. Made specifically for basic ass questions like this. And don't cry when nobody wants to spoon feed you. That isn't how it works around here.

Wouldn't the S15 be the SR20DET Notch Top? I could be wrong though.

How possible is it to have some sort of "thread" that acts as a search function?

What would happen to this forum if the 'new thread' and 'search' buttons were to be switched?

Make a button that redirects the user's entire post into a 'let me google that for you' link, then put it next to the other post buttons but call it 'Post Super Extra JDM same-day Reply'
