View Full Version : Slower 5speed swap?

I just dropped an overhauled KA24DE, with jun lite flywheel, ACT street strip clutch, and 5speed tranny into my S13 Vert.

When this motor set was in my S13.5 project car it felt much faster than it does in my S13 Vert. For that matter the vert's original KA24DE motor felt faster with the slush box auto tranny it.

The engine is running great, and revs just the same as before. There is the possibility that the combination of the heavier nature of the vert and me becoming accustom to my SR20DET powered S13.5 that has gone on a weight loss diet is warping my perceptions.

Has any one else experienced this after a 5 speed swap on a vert, or a hardtop for that matter?

your just experiencing a difference in engine power I guess.

I went from auto > 5 spd KA in my vert and there was no difference in feeling slower.

when I went from stock KA > VH the vert felt a LOT faster.

going from VH to KA-T the vert is even faster..

Yeah I am pretty sure it is going back to the slower engine.

Do you have the original vert doors? Could be a difference in weight. Those vert doors are heavy as shit.

If not probably your diff.

It's just the weight of the vert. I went from auto>5sp = felt the same. Swapped my 2j from my coupe to vert = feels slower, because it is due to weight.

Welcome to the fat club lol. I refuse to cut things out or swap doors due to weight, and personal preference. I prefer the method of making more power.

Turns out I am having an issue that decided to pop up after the swap. It will run great above 3000RMPS but stutters and hiccups under 3k. I have changed out the fuel pump and the filters. When the Maf is unplugged it will idle but jumps around as if there is a vacuum leak. I replaced the intake manifold with no change and check all vacuum sources. only one I am really concerned about is the IAC. I think the problem is in line with it. I will keep you posted.
