Hello All,

I am concerned about my SR. I just did a Compression Test like 40 mins ago and here is my results:

Cyl1 135
Cyl2 120
Cyl3 120
Cyl4 135

Pour a cap full of oil on each cylinder and re-test. If they jump up to 150-160 ish, might wanna start thinking about a rebuild or another bottom end. 125 is the minimum compression per FSM so you're about there.

Explain how you performed the test, throttle wide open, number of rotations or until gauge stopped moving up, battery charged or on charger. The numbers are low for final readings though.

@cotbu I performed the test throttle open, counting rotation of 5 engine cycles. And the battery is fully charged.

I have never had results vary by opening the throttle at all ever

also was engine warm?

Engine was running for 15 mins.

if it doesnt blow smoke keep driving it. if it blows smoke look into rebuilding.

I have some real nice pistons and rods for sale btw :)

do you know the precision of the compression tester used? the numbers are close enough together to indicate a healthy engine (spec). do you know that the 120psi read was actually 120psi? is the precision of your tester 100% or could it be off by 5-10% (6-12 psi) the accuracy of the tool can be determined by repeating the test the precision by using another tester.

Repeat the test dry and wet. If you get close to the same numbers dry, pour a cap full of oil in each cylinder and re do test. If those numbers climb significantly, you'll need a rebuild.

Remove all plugs when doing a comp test as well, you'll have more accurate numbers and less chance of killing a battery. You also need to have the throttle body wide open. Stop the test once the needle moves only 1psi or not at all.

Did you remove all the plugs or do them one at a time

If it does not burn oil or lose oil, and boosts fine, I would not worry about what the gauge says.
