Ok so i bought the car over a month ago running pretty good but rough around the edges as far as wiring and stuff like that..motor is a red top sr20det i drove it from pheonix to abq and had to go 65 because it would get hot and blow oil out of a leaking head gasket which i hadnt discovered until about an hour outside of town..i continued to drive the car for 3 days and had no problems at all other than a noisy starter..i dropped the car off at a friends house to do the head gasket in exchange for some other car parts (we are no longer friends) and now my car is making top end noise like a slapping sound..timing is correct as far as the gear marks and chain links at top dead center but i havent dropped the pan to check the mark on the crank i wasnt thinking it necessary..when i removed the cover both cam gear bolts were worked way loose and a rocker guide was missing and they are tomei apparently lash type? i ordered and installed a new one already thinking that was the sound but apparently not..cas seems to be right i tried a couple of different lineups with correct gear timing and noticed if its not right its fairly obvious..dont see any loose parts and i bled all the lifters in new oil and installed them right away standing up..at one point the sound was gone until reaching 1500 rpm by adjusting idle and cas..tensioner was just swapped just in case but made no difference..im not exactly a "mechanic" just trying to learn for myself please help me solve this riddle and apologies for such a drawn out first post i hope im not breaking the rules..o and a side question my cam gears are solid with no holes in them wutsup with that?

Fuck, reading that gave me a headache. Did you inspect if the chain guides are still intact?

Haha yeh sry i bet my headache is bigger tho..guides look fine from what i can see..ive turned the motor over like 100 times by hand to set cas and check components all seems smooth no catching on anything other than compression

Ok im going to dig into the car again today dont really know what im gona do exactly but i have a few other questions..could super loose cam gear bolts cause a skip on crank timing and could that have caused a bent valve or something?..its really hard to tell exactly where its coming from but seems loudest under intake side of rearmost cylinder and down by the turbo..also kinda smells like fuel by the exhaust manifold gasket could a blown gasket cause that sound?. but i am missing a bolt between the downpipe and turbo i just noticed and earlier installed a nut on the exhaust manifold that was missing..also how can i eliminate or confirm the possibility of a spun bearing in the easiest way?

It was a rod bearing
