View Full Version : SR20 hesitation at only 2K rpms?

Finished swapping a SR20det into my car. Fires up and idles high when cold then goes down when warmed up like normal.
Issue is when I rev the car up to about 2K rpm..the idle will bounce up and down from 1500 to 2K on its own while I have the gas held slightly down at that point.
It will rev up to 2K...cut up then after 2K it will freely rev and go into boost fine and pull hard without any problems.
Also when I quickly tap the gas the car will bog and drop idle a bit then catch itself and rev up. I cant cruise with my foot lightly on the gas or else the car cuts up and bucks.

When the motor was out I changed the IACV gasket and TB gasket and also cleaned out the IACV and TB and intake plenum with all new gaskets.
I did notice my CAS is missing a bolt and it currently looks like this. Aren't the bolts supposed to be centered?

I am also not running a BOV currently and the car is open downpipe at the moment.

FIXED

My issue was my TPS was way out of correct voltage. These were the numbers I pulled:

Closed was this, which was WAY off what it is supposed to be:

WOT was this which was also off:

Adjusted the closed plate to .40 and WOT then was at 4.0 and all my issues went away.
I know it is supposed to be .45v and 4.5v but the motor was hot and I kept burning my hand ill try and squeeze out that last .05v tomorrow.
I took it out for a spin after setting it to .40 and 4.0 and it felt like a totally different car. No bogging at 2K and no more instant gas/idle drop issues and hesitation.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

the cas is not installed right,

and you may have an issue with your maf (FILTHY)

Also, check for boost leaks (fill the plumbing to 15psi and see how well it holds)

Do these things, (install CAS right, Fill plumbing to 15psi, and clean your maf) and then report back.

refer to the FSM for CAS installation proceedure. Or use a timing light and hope to get lucky.

Thanks for all the info. I did fix the issue that was causing horrible driving conditions in the previous post. Just needed to adjust my TPS and all my issues went away.

I agree I DO however need to adjust my CAS and get a timing light on it.
