So I just finished a partial rebuild of my S13 blacktop SR.

New piston rings, ARP head studs, decked head with APEXi Metal head gasket raising compression to 9.06:1. Few cooling mods. And did a throttle body coolant bypass.

The car has a FMIC, 3inch elbow-back, and a Walbro 255.

So, I got the car running, and dialed in the timing, and it runs pretty smooth. But when I drive it, as soon as it even starts building boost, the ECU pulls back timing. Later on, I noticed that when the engine is cold, it won't rev. If it's really cold, it bogs as soon as I touch the throttle, and as it's warming up, it will hesitate and rev very slowly. Once warm though, it behaves healthy.

I tried retarding timing to 12, but it didn't change anything. Wideband reads normal.

My plugs are all gapped at .32. Compression test after the first heat cycle read 155 135 150 145

What could be causing this?

Thanks Zilvia

Sounds like your timing is way off, make sure your cas is stabbed correctly.
