Hello everyone! A few months ago I got a 91' S13 Hatch. It has a KA24DE, blown, and I bought it like this for around 750 bucks. It has a really nice body, never wrecked, and really nice interior.

Here are some pictures!

Now, I am saving up for an SR20DET. HOWEVER, because of buying it broke down, I haven't had a daily. I live with my grandparents and have been getting rides from them and friends, but I really don't want to put anyone in that position.

I just a few questions because I am considering doing a rebuild on my KA and I have never done anything like that before. To be honest. Now, I have done some searches on here for a Rebuild walk through, and didn't find anything. So I broadened my term to "ka24de rebuild" and it just popped up build threads and the KA FAQ thread. So If anyone has any helpful threads PLEASE POST A LINK! MUCH APPRECIATED.

My questions, however are:

-Is this going to even be worth my time?
-Will I be able to do this on my own, if I don't have much to lose with the motor rebuild?
-Can I just buy a "rebuild kit" and have pretty much everything I need to complete the rebuilt, and are these reliable?

If you see that I am missing something or my thinking is unclear, please tell me. Your criticism will be taken into consideration! So please, speak up. I am new to this whole thing, and I would love some advice from those of you who are far more knowledgeable on this subject than I am.

Thank you so much in advance,
-Chris

Go and buy a Haynes manual for the engine year of your KA (ie: 91-93 240sx or Altima) it should have a whole chapter on engine rebuild. Don't know if anyone offers rebuild kits...try Google

Okay, cool. I got a Chilton manual for my engine. It does in fact have a part on rebuilds, so I will stick with that. Thank you very much. Oh and as for a rebuild kit, here I was talking about these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/91-94-Nissan-240SX-2-4-KA24DE-dohc-Engine-Rebuild-Kit-/220776392131

Are these any good? It looked like a pretty sweet deal, I just don't want to do a rebuild on something crappy, that defeats the purpose. Thanks in advance, again, for all your help. I await your responses.

If anyone else has a thread link or anything that has anything I can find of use for the rebuild please send me link to it, I am trying to read up on it before I go through with it.

I'd Prolly stay away from cheapo ebay rebuild kits...Maybe find something more reputable. Maybe one the high performance aftermarket shops near you might know...

I have a crate motor in my car from SRT (not the Chrysler folks) racing engines...they might be a good source for a quality rebuild kit...Also look on KA-T.org. ...

Okay. I am reading up on the KA-T forums, and if I can't find anything, I'll ask the guys there about it. Hey man, thanks again for the help.

Actually I found a better rebuilt kit, and a complete guide. That, along with my manual for the engine, I should be set! Thanks again. I got it covered now. It's just homework time now. :ddog:

The thing is, you can usually find a complete running KA for around $400. Your rebuild will probably cost more than that, and it will probably not turn out properly if it is your first one...

plus, think of all the time you'll save just swapping the engine 1,2,3. Not to mention the experience of actually swapping the engine, so when the time comes for the sr20det swap, you will already have a great feel for how to do it.

you have a huge market of good running ka's then. $800 is the price around here for one in good running shape

I have one for sale $500. Runs absolutely perfect, no leaks no problems. Only removed it for an sr20det swap. Still have the car it came out of.
