View Full Version : Slow acceleration, sluggish till 3k, sounds like im redlining at 4.5 - 5k?

So I just insured my car and registered it all last week. Just swapped a s14 KA24DE after buying the car with a rod knock. Been driving it, put new fuel in it since the old fuel was well over a year old. That was my first thought as to why it's driving like that. To clarify how it's acting it really feels like it has no power. I'll floor it and the rpm's barely move. when I'm first moving as long as I keep the rpm's above 2500 it'll accelerate pretty well with about 25% throttle. When I'm just cruising lest say in 4th gear at 2200 rpms it's randomly jolt and bounce forward and backward and I have to give more gas to stop it. I can accelerate faster with less throttle than full throttle, till I get to above 3k it'll then kick in and accelerate. Another thing to note is that is bounces idle alot. When coming to a stop it'll drop to 500 then up to 1000 or 1200. It will die in the morning on a cold start unless I'm pumping the throttle. I've replaced my maf, fuel filter, fixed a leaking injector. The leaking injector had fixed it at first for a day. After replacing my leaking injector it ran just fine. wouldn't sputter just driving normally under 2.5k or jolt. Had alot more power. Still had the issue that I could go above 5.5k. Today I coulodn't even get above 4.5k and it's just getting worse and worse. Some guys are say that it's deffinately my fuel pressure. Maybe my FPR? Also it's running rich. When I fist started it up I was making a new cloud for the sky for at least 10 min.
Also my car is a 91 240sx Super Hicas. Like I said I just swapped a s14 KA in it. Ka has EGR eliminated that is it.

check maf again. borrow a good working one.

Alright I just got my no power issue mainly fixed. I had yet another leaking injector that was just pouring fuel into my 3rd cylinder again. I'm still having the topping out at 5.5k and I dont have all of my power still.

smell your oil. if it smells like there's fuel in it. change it out. is there a rev limit as well when you rev the car in neutral? if there is it can be the ecu. i would test all wires and injectors first. by starting the car and pulling wires and injectors one at a time and lookin for a change in idle. if there a change then its working. lmk wat happens.

I did check my oil last night and it did have a sent of fuel in it. Sometimes randomly I can get to redline and I have power but then randomly I don't. So I don't think its my ecu.

do an oil change. i would then check fuel pressure. and if anything check the charging system. test the battery with the car running. make sure u add load to the system by turning on headlights and ac on full blast.

Can anyone help me out with how I have to check fuel pressure? I've been trying to look up how to do it and I honestly can't find any good tutorials or pictures on what I need to do and what I need.

Thank you!! Now how would I go about connecting it? Do I have to cut my line or something?

disconnect hose from fuel filter to fuel rail. then connect that hose to one end of the pressure tester. get another high pressurized hose and connect to the fuel rail and on to the other end tester. make sure u clamp the hoses down just to be safe. before removing the line open the gas cap to release any pressure in the system. normal pressure should be at 38-40psi at idle, 43-45psi with the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator disconnected. do two tests, engine cold and when hot. also if you were to accelerate the engine gauge should move up to 5 psi more

Thank you! I will be testing it our tomorrow when I get off of work and I will come back with results.

So I just pulled codes off of my ecu. All I got was code 34 knock sensor what does this mean? And after researching it seems like this is where my problems lye.
