OK so a few nights ago i was going a little practicing on some local streets, just 90° turns and a little ebraking to try to keep getting better. Everything was fine as I went to slide into a street and after straightening out, I had a misfire. There was no power, it sounded like an sti and was idling rough, all the signs of an injector failing or a spark plug failing.

The next morning, I went out and checked to see if it was doing it again and it was. So I checked to see which cylinder it was by pulling the spark plug wire off whileit was rrunning and listen to a change in the engines performance. Ended up being #4. Smelled for gas and there was no excess smell so that led me to believe that it was an injector. I also listened to it with a screw driver and couldn't hear it clicking like I should.

So I changed the injector with a spare 1 I had and it ran like it should. It reved fine, idled fine, checked to see if it was ticking using the same method as before, it was, pulled the spark plug wire off to check for a difference in engine performance, there was. So Ifigured that iI fixed it. Took it for a drive, reved it high through 3rd gear, then drove it normal for about 2 miles then it started to misfire again. So I drove it home and checked over the same things I had before... Injector was dead again.

So now I checked all the injectors to make sure I hadn't missed anything, and all the other injectors were working perfectly. So I took the #1 injector put and put it in the #4 spot and took the "dead" #4 out and put it in the #1 spot. Fired it up and it ran like a champ. Took it for a drive and it did the same thing. Ran for a while then started to misfire. #4 again.

So I pulled the codes off the ecu and it said code 14 (the speed sensor was malfunctioning) and code 54 which means there's a short between the automatic transmission and the ecu. This doesn't make sense to me because it has a 5spd swap and has been swapped from a sohc to a dohc.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm pretty lost on this 1!

Well considering you were doing some sliding when this all started, how many left turns were you sliding? im thinkin the harness under the driver side fenderwell might have gotten some loving and possibly exposed some wires

wiggle the wiring going to the #4 injector also, my buddy had the same issue and i touched the wires on accident and found out there was a short. OEM harness is very brittle

this has just happened to me, i was sliding a bit today and as i come off the last tur the car starts to misfire. and when i proceed to accelerate to get going, the car just sounds like it had a 2-step. brap brap brap then it completely shut off and i had to pull to the side of the road.. any ideas of what this could possibly be?
