View Full Version : Be careful with Ebay Intakes

Now I am not saying don't buy them at all because I say piping is piping. For the price you can't really resist just be careful and check it out before just bolting it on! On my KA24DE where the hoses connect to the new intake piping there can be some little pieces of metal on the inside hanging.
They look a little bit like this.

Now I don't know about you, but I don't want this sucked into my engine and causing all sorts of havoc! I didn't put anything for size comparison, but the bottom one is about 1/2 inch long and was barely hanging on in the inside of the piping. As well as the other one was doing the same and being about 1/4 an inch. I think it's safe to assume bad things could happen with this being in your intake manifold.

You get what you pay for, and with ebay crap you get crap one way or another.
it's a pointless and stupid mod for a stock KA anyway.

Well that too, only reason I picked up a AEM one was not for power but because Cali needs carb stickers and I was getting tired of the plastic ones breaking and cops trying to cite "modded intake" because I wrapped it in tape or had glued it back together. The AEM ones don't really give any power and the lack of R&D ebay ones probably rob power. 2hp on a good day with ebay ones is not really worth the price.

My intake was infested with rat feces from sitting inside a barn and this was a cheap way of cleaning it up. I still think it was worth it. It adds a nice little flair to the engine bay whether it be beneficial or not. It's a decent beginners mod too because there isn't much you can mess up. That and it can be thrown into a tune-up pretty easily.

I agree, but in this case I believe the price is beneficial as long as you take $20 of your time to inspect and make sure it is good to go!

I have a ebay intake on my rb25. and you have to check any intake for casting. it's just common sense!!

wash it. Wash everything and run your hands over the surface (wear a latex glove) before installing anything, any part, any manifold, turbo, lines, intercooler, valve cover, head, the block you just got back from the machine shop, your brand new camshafts, the neighbors dog, etc..
its common sense to wash and inspect every part before you use it.
2. You should not be modifying the OEM KA24DE engine anyways, unless you are bolting on a cast exhaust manifold and a brand new garret turbocharger and plan to run 7psi of boost.

Like I said the reason I got it was because my intake was rat infested due to it sitting, but I actually don't see a problem with bolt-ons. It's where everyone starts from! The easy stuff.
