View Full Version : Difference between 95 and 96 gas tank?

My fuel gauge stopped working and I've replaced the long plastic float tube with known working ones and it still doesn't work. I remember reading somewhere that the whole tank needs to be replaced as the real float is at the bottom side and not a replaceable.

Nissan makes two different gas tanks with different part numbers and prices for 95-96. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the two?

Thanks

You sure the gauge itself is not the problem?

Cluster only has 70,000 original miles and the needle stays at full until 200 miles then drops slowly. I'm not sure if it's the cluster or tank. I would think the part soaked in fuel would fail first.

I have this same problem with fuel gauge not dropping until after 200ish mi. First occurred after going off-course at a drifting event in 2011. Never really looked into it since, though; just kinda got used to it. :x

Interested to hear any solutions that might be suggested in this thread.

Maybe the send is different but the tanks are the same

well i filled up my s14 (95 zenki SE) for the first time since i owned the car. Fuel gauge read full and now i have gone 65 miles and now my fuel reads dead on 3/4 of a tank...

so 65 miles= quarter tank of gas??! wtf

stock ka24de and everything appears to working as it should.

Tanks are the same, the long tube inside is the sender. Im just not 100% sure the plugs are the same for 95-96 vs 97-98 for the sender. If you've replaced the sender but the gauge still doesnt work, did you try swapping gauges?

As far as burning thru 3/4 of a tank, it could burn that if its in limp mode and burning excess gas.

95 and 96 plugs in the outlets are different.
95 plug uses 3 pins while the 96 and up use 4 pins.

As far as EGR being removed and all. I have no emission stuff at all and had amazing gas mileage. Was better than my Hyundai elantra... weirdly.
