Hey there,
my car burns oil, yet there's no leak, or no smoke coming outta the exhaust. theres a smell present at the rear and in the engine bay; as well as a faint smell while cruising. leads me to believe it's my piston rings. has anyone ever tried a ring sealant, oil additive before? Rislone smoke repair is the one i was lookin at. I haven't heard much about motor honey. all help is appreciated

what car.
what engine.
what modifications.
my bet is you have a poorly designed crankcase ventilation system and are sucking oil into your intake pipe.
have you bothered doing a dry then wet compression test to check condition of your rings?

91 240sx, KA24DE. de-baffled intake, 4-2-1 headers to test pipe to muffler.
I haven't had the time to do a compression test.

If you smell oil cruising.... maybe you have an exhaust leak, or spilled oil on your manifold. Have you verified the oil to drop excessively (say, more than a quart every thousand miles? That's a reasonable threshold for "bad")?
Ring seal is just oil thickener. Unless your motor is royally screwed, like mine, you should use strait motor oil, so as not to dilute the additive package. Just change to a higher weight if it becomes necessary. You might consider some sort of high milage oil.
Besides, if it smokes, it's likely valves, and not rings. Using dramatically thickened oil keeps it from getting where it needs to go, and doing what it needs to do. If it is valves, you can do the seals without a rebuild. (to see if it's valve stem seals, let the car idle for a minute, and then have someone watch the exhaust for smoke as you quickly press the gas pedal all the way, and then release it)

Mechanicalmoron doesn't seem to be a moron at all.
If it is your valve seals now would be a fantastic time to invest in the proper valve tool. Either from JWT or elsewhere. Would be a great idea to lap the valves and have a look at the guides while you're at it also.
I've seen some crazy stuff happen to ka's that never saw boost a day in their life.
What's the mileage on the engine? How well was it cared for?

currently there's about 150,000 on the motor. the kid that put DC headers on before fucked up one of the header bolts, and red RTV'd it. there is a vacuum leak, just haven't been able to find where it is. I also noticed that the lines going to the PAIRC solenoid valve (vacuum and atmospheric), and to the canister have been cut right beneath the intake pipe. a little bit after the throttle body. IAC is dirty and i'm gonna have to clean that out when i have some time.
BUT-
I was thinking of putting her in my garage for the winter and saving up money to do my KA-T build.
