95 engine in a 98

Can a 95 Ka engine be installed into a 98 and still be wired to be compliant wit OBDII emission testing. Will this be a direct swap or will it need any additional parts.

iirc you will need the 98 intake manifold to be compliant, there is a crank angle sensor on the 98 you may need..what else...might have to swap transmissions to keep all of the transmission sensors working. Not sure if that will trip the ECU in an OBD II car though. Sorry I can't help more

What about a 96 or 97 any changes need to be done witheither of those?

just find an obdII engine to start with (96-98, some later 95's though) then you won't have as much trouble

97-98 are either the same or very similar.

What exactly are you trying to do here? If you have a blown 98 motor just get ANY DOHC motor. Move the 98 parts over to it and be done with it.

My problem is I just bought the car. It is a 98, and has a black top swap. The city I live in uses a OBDII scan test. Thus in order to register it and pass emissions I need to get a KA to swap back in there. I have no ecu or wiring harness so I need to know what the diffrencec are before I start buying a new motor/trans/Ecu/harness.
If anyone know the diffrence between the diffrent ka motors emission wise let me know please.

Damn, that sucks. How do you SR guys manage with smog tests ? Not to start up a war, but this is one of the reasons why I've opted KA-T. That sounds like a lot of work you have to do to pass. Good luck man.
