Here's my problem. I have a 1997 240sx with a ka24de It is a manual transmission that can be push started but i cannot start the car with the key. It started and ran perfectly fine one day, and the next day when i tried starting it, i diddnt get a crank. I know that the ignition switch is fine because the lights on the dash come on when i turn it into the on position. The battery is also fine because the headlights come on nice and bright. I hear the petrol from the fuel lines squirting. The starter is fine, all of the fuses are intact, and the relay is clicking, the wire from the starter to the battery have contact and is tight and snug, and none of the connections to the battery are corroded. I have no idea what could be wrong. Thank you in advance.

Pho,

Recheck your ignition switch module....the START position on the module is shorting out. You'll have to remove it & test it with a multi-meter to test voltage & continuity on the ignition switch module. This is what the ignition switch module looks like.

97 1997 Nissan 240SX Ignition Switch - Steering - Beck Arnley, Genuine, Standard Motor Products - PartsGeek (http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1997/nissan/240sx/steering/ignition_switch.html)

There are five positions on the ignition switch module. 1). Lock 2) Off 3) ACC 4) ON & #5)START. If the contacts in the START position go bad, the other remaining positions will continue to work... giving you the idea that the ignition switch is still good. It's not...remove the two screws holding the module in & test the module....

Watch the following Youtube video to get an idea of how to locate & remove the ignition switch module...It says 4th Gen Maxima, but the same procedure applies...all you have to do is watch the video from Time stamp 2:00 minutes thru Time stamp 5:00 minutes...that three minute section explains the removal.

Anyhow, hope this helps...

I solved it awhile ago and forgot about this thread once i checked my email this came up xD. So it was my fault i guess. Whenever you start a car that's newer you have to depress the clutch all the way. And it didn't come to my mind that there was sensing all of this. Something broke off and my car didn't sense that the clutch pedal was not in all the way. To find that spot, stick your head under and press down on the clutch all the way, and you should see a short black thing. If the ring broke off like mine, just take like a nut or something and screw it onto there and try starting it. That was my problem. I basically made it rain 400 dollars. Guys don't blow money like me. Just take your time and check the small stuff and gradually build up to something bigger. Hope this helps everyone else! I know how frustrated all you 16 yr olds are, I'm 16 myself, just take your time and try not to break anything that you'll regret breaking.
