I swapped a ca18det into a 720 pickup recently, and it’s all ready to go except its running horrible. Here is the problem I’m having: it will start and idle fine but it won’t rev at all, and when I move the throttle it will die unless I kind of bump the throttle in sync with it stalling then I can kind of get it to rev. When it does my wideband goes off the scale on the lean side. And im getting a 34 and 11 code on the ecu
I’ve never been more frustrated with an engine in my life. I have been trying to figure out what’s wrong for 2 months now
Here is what I have done: rebuilt ca18det block, rd20det turbo, brand new wiring harness, 255walbro, nismo fpr (set), dsm resistor, fmic, recirculating bov, 7psi external wastegate, 2.5’’ exhaust.
What Iv tried to fix the problem:
changed 2 different cas , set timing
Swapped ecu’s, I get a 34 and 11 on both
Changed the knock sensor-new
Checked for leaks, hot- cold-vac
Checked all coil packs- they are working
Cleaned maf sensor
new ntk O2 sensor
I guess what I’m asking is what else could throw a 34 and 11 and make the engine run like it does, because I’m at a loss, I have no idea that’s wrong with it

11 CAS problem
34 knock sensor problem
11 > If your wiring is OK, chances are your CAS splines are worn. Get a new CAS and a new exhaust cam (or swap the splines with a new one, i know a company sold that long ago)
34 > search for "knock sensor elimination", basically you need to solder a couple of resistors on your wiring to delete it. Thing is, you probably ARE detting.
Finally you probably have a leak problem and a fuel delivery problem. Check fuel pump/filter/injectors. And check again for boost leak.

thanks for the reply, the engine cams are new and iv tried 3 cas units. so im pretty sure its not the cas its self, the wiring harness is new, but I guess it could be bad somehow its never been tested before. is there anyway to test it?
also it seems like one of the injectors is clicking louder then the rest. is that common when there going bad? there stock injectors
thank you for your help

I was searching for the stock injectors and, I think I don't have stock injectors. the ones I have a blue/green top. does anyone know if the dets ever came with injector colors other then red or cream?
if not what injectors do I have?

CA18 injector plugs are yellowish or orange if i remember correctly (i dont use them anymore, went ev14 1000cc), but surely not blue/green.
No one can tell what injector you have, unless you remove them and have them cleaned /flow tested.
As far as wiring goes ... check continuity with an ohm meters on the pins. The ECU pinout and CAS pinout will tell you where each wire go.

Ok. Thanks.
If I had, say 450cc injectors in and a stock ecu tune
Would that typically make the injectors spray to much
Or not enough? I.E rich or lean?

the ECU has no idea what size injectors are, it just commands it open for a fixed length, assuming it knows its size.
so bigger injectors without remap USUALLY means being too rich.
USUALLY because injectors have latency. Big injectors usually have big latency, meaning they dont have time to open properly at low load, giving a lean idle, then rich condition on increased load(when latency represent a small %age of total opening time)

thank you for your help.
I think that is part of my problem, I need to find some stock injectors.
I probably still have an issue with the cas though, but now im getting
somewhere
thanks again

One thing you can do is try to spin the CAS while its plugged in. If it works properly the injectors should prime.
you might also want to try and swap the maf out with another one. Cleaning the maf won't help if its already busted.

ok, so I checked to make sure the cas was priming the pump in all 4 spots, and changed out the injectors for stock ones, also I found out that the maf I have is for a ka24de.
I'm starting to realize that I may have bought a swap from someone trying to clean out there garage. :(
I'v heard that running the wrong maf can fry the ecu. is that the case if I had the ka maf hooked up?
