View Full Version : Random KA question

I have a 95 S14 that I just recently had a 98 KA put into because the old one was blown.

So my PS system has been leaking which prompted me to rebuild the pump and install a new high pressure line. I cleaned up the engine bay and the pump before the re-install so I could make a fresh leak noticeable. After putting everything back together it still leaks, but it's leaking from the top of the banjo fitting on the new line right where the fitting bolts to the banjo bolt itself.

My question is this. Is there a specific nut that bolts onto the banjo bolt? Because the fluid leaks up from the threads above the banjo fitting and out over the top of the nut that is holding everything on.

And yes I do have the copper crush washer on the top of the banjo fitting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need TWO crush washers, that are NEW. One on either side of the high pressure line.

Like this... ps pump outlet, crush washer, high pressure line, crush washer, banjo bolt.

Its not a 240sx if the power steering doesn't leak.

I am highly suspicious of a 240sx that does not leak Power Steering fluid. It's just.... not right.

hehe. couldn't resist.

There is one crush washer in between the PS pump and the banjo bolt, then the bolt was tightened, then I have banjo fitting (high pressure line) crush washer then the nut to tighten the high pressure line on.

That is how it looked when I checked the picture on courtesynissan site.

As stated above there has to be 2 new crush washers one on the top of the line and one on the bottom. Make sure there isn't any DIRT OR SLUDGE on the washers when you go to tighten them down or it WILL leak.

I have both of the crush washers in, I went out today and bought two brand new ones and installed them. The fluid still leaks out of the threads and over the nut. I feel like the nut I have on there is the wrong one.

That just means you are half assing the job. Seriously fix your shit right and you won't have any issues.

OP you are having leaking over the nut that is closest to the pulley, not the one behind the PS pump and the fluid is coming up around the threads and out the top, not the sides where the crush washer are? Here is a picture of what the nut should look like. How are the threads on the nut and bolt part? Anything rounded out or old cross threading that looks fixed?

Yea that's exactly where it's leaking. Nope they all look fine and that's the nut I have on there too. Wonder if I don't have it tight enough. Or maybe it's too tight. It's a really weird problem. It's not pissing out but it'll leak half the reservoir in about 10 miles

Why so Serious on teh internet?

fix "whos" shit? My car has no power steering. It also has no engine. It is powered by marshmallows.

I meant random 240s you see on the street, they all leak power steering. it was a joke super srs man. I got a 240 with under 50k all original and it leaks ps too.
THEN, I took out the engine and put in teh marsh's. all fixor

Pretty much you are saying its ok to have a problem and not fix it. Mine does not leak, it started and I fixed the issue the next day. The only reason there are leaks on so many s chassis is because people find it acceptable to let them go. Unlike OP here who is trying to fix his issue.

As for OP try putting some teflon tape on the upper part of the threads and see if it stops leaking, also try torquing it down to spec if you can.

Thanks for trying to help zerodameaon. Ill try the Teflon tape, do you know what the stock torque spec is someone told me 65 in-lbs but that doesn't seem right to me. I also got a new banjo bolt from courtesy nissan. But it's different than the stock one on the pump.

The stock one is more of a stud that goes into the pump that you have to screw a nut onto like the one in the picture you posted. The one they sent me is an actual bolt that bolts through the fitting and into the pump. Wondering if that will work. Any idea? Ill post a picture later today.

From your description they may have sent you the bolt that goes on the high pressure line banjo to that extension part and not the nut for the extension.
