Hey guys not new to Zilvia, just created my account. I have a 1992 240sx coupe with bone stock KA24DE. I was going to school a week ago, and 10ish kms away from school the car started to lose power and bogg out really hard on the highway. The car wouldnt rev past 3k and couldnt go any faster than i was going. had to wait 3 hours to get towed home. ( Fuck me right ? ) I charged the battery when i got home, unplugged MAF then started....fired right up ? same thing happend today on the way to school to write my exam. Alternator maybe? any ideas thanks!

I am short in experience, but I would think for not having all knowledge as a mechanic, I would want an OBD1 Scan Tool. That way you can scan for problems, or if non found, you can cancel out what you know is fine.

You can read for codes on the ecu itself via led light.

As for the problem, did you try using a known working maf? Try cleaning your maf with maf cleaner.

if you suspect your alternator is bad, get a multimeter on your battery while the car is running, it should read 13.5-14.5v.

If you think you maf is bad, go find a good maf to try and test it with

you can also check your TPS voltage.

Thanks guys, it for sure is my alternator. I had the car running for like 2 mins with all the lights on inside, ac, everything with power and battery died out pretty quick. wouldn't rev past 5k.i tried night before with fresh charge and ran fine..redlined it to check to see if it would bog. 20 mins later battery died. Im going to take it off today if i can find my ramps, then drop it off at global rebuilders to be rebuilt.

sounds like a loose CAS to me, check all of your connectors and plugs and make sure they have pins to keep them from coming off.

other than that, check your ecu for codes.
- turn key to on position
- unbolt ecu from chassis
- with a screw driver, turn clockwise until it wont go any further, hold for 2 seconds, turn coiunter clockwise until it stops, ( Do not force it on either side)
- refer to led light and read the codes

Now, as others state above, if it is a MAF problem, i believe it is a code 12
and if the Alternator is bad, it should drain the Battery, you should start to see smoke through the vents, and it should smell like onions
