I'm having trouble researching or finding answers to some flex fuel questions I have.

My build is nearing completion, and I'm looking into tuning options right now. I have my eye on an aem ems v2 or an apexi power fc d-jetro. with that being said. ill give you a quick rundown of my build.

redtop sr20det
fully built, fully forged block and head with bc 264 cams. arp, acl, ti, dual springs, s14 pickup, etc.
hx35/bep .70a/r exhaust housing
mazworxs mani, tial 44mm wg
hmic
1000cc injectors
stock intake

Ok, moving on.
I'm very fascinated by E85, but it's not readily available around me. So I want to do a flex fuel set up. I've read some about the gm flex fuel sensor being used to run 93 octane and E85 without having to change tunes on the fly... but no concrete info.
:blah:

With all that being said, what are my options??
I would very much like to run the Apexi unit, and wire in the flex fuel sensor but I would need guidance on this, if it is even possible.
My power goal is at least ~500hp.

thanks.

500+ HP ?

Nah, flex fuel sensor do work but you wont be able to do much with it on a performance oriented car. basically it just is a sensor measuring conductivity, and the ECU remove/add timing and enrich/lean based on that info.

I'd also recommend to forget about running 93 fuel if you are aiming for high HP; e85 is so much different you will build the engine a different way. Namely higher compression, as the octane rating is >100, maybe a different turbo. It also runs way cooler so you can use a smaller intercooler.

You are going to compromise power if you want your engine to run on both fuels - and make power on both. If you only drive around with 93 then it could be ok, just dont boost it much if you went high comp.

What i do on my S13 is i always have a netbook with the nistune software on it when refilling. A couple years ago e85 pumps went dry for some months here, so i had to change the maps on the fly. I had a set of SP98 maps, another for SP95 and one for E85. When not running e85 only, i lowered the boost and tried not go thrash it, and that was it.

You get used to changing the maps pretty fast though, it just is a matter of minutes. Just watch your AFR and you can guess the e85/regular gas mix ratio, so adapting to the new ratio is simple.

Also note e85 tends to be 70% only in winter , so you need to adapt a bit too.

All in all, e85 is way worth it if you can get access to it. My fuel system and engine have never been cleaner either :D

You will need bigger injectors for 500+ HP though. I know EV14 exist in 1600 and 2000cc versions. You will need a good pump setup too (surge tank and maybe bigger fuel rail would be nice)

NismotronicSA (http://www.nismotronic.com/nismotronic-rt-packages/jktuning/nismotronicsa-tuning-package_002_30.php) has flex-fuel support. 4 fuel maps with programmable map switching, and MAF to MAP (speed-density) conversion. You would need to add a flex-fuel sensor and Zeitronix ECA (http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/ECA/ECA.shtml) to convert the flex-fuel sensor signal to a compatible 0-5V signal.
