View Full Version : KA24DE Tranny Grinds Only When Car is Driven for A While. New Clutch.

Okay so i have a 1993 Nissan 240sx S13 Hatch, Stock KA. When i drive the car it acts normal once i been driving it for a while my transmission starts to Grind. i park it let it be for a couple hours then it stops grinding and goes back to normal ? and Process repeats ? any ideas ? Also has a New Clutch.. thanks in advance.

what gear oil did you use in the tranny? i once used royal purple and i had the same problem with my SR tranny i thought my syncros where bad i replaced the fluid with penzoil 80-90 gear oil and i never had another problem

Agree with the above poster. Sounds like the gear oil is heating up and losing too much viscosity to be doing it's job. Maybe the the gear oil recommended.

Could be that the clutch is getting hot and expanding. Well, let me re-phrase that. the clutch IS getting hot and expanding; thats a given. What I mean is, could be that you do not have enough throw from your slave cylinder to fully disengage the clutch one it gets hot and expands.

So, check your clutch fluid, clutch slave, bleed the system, and consider replacing the slave and inspecting the throw it provides while somebody steps on the clutch.

gearbox roller bearings on their way out. Use thicker oil, it will do for some time. Nissan sells some gl4 80w90, you could try it.
