I have a 92 240sx with a twin cam ka24 motor. I just bought this car. Story behind with car is. It was in a small fender bender. I had to pull the core out about 1 inch and replace the battery. (still needs new fender passenger side light and bumper) So I put a battery in the car. The car has power. Radio, lights, gauges are all on When I go to crank it the gauges tune off and my car wont crank. Any idea of what this could be?
From the wreck there is no engine damage at all. Also I noticed a belt not on all the way. The bottom one. any diagrams to help me out and would that cause it not to crank?
EDIT car doesnt crank or turn over.

Bad battery post? Bad ground? Have you checked this?

I took a battery off of my other car and that battery that I know works.. Yes sir I believe its well grounded on it. I just went back outside to give it another try. The dash lights stay on but the speed odometer (digital numbers) and radio goes off when you try to start it. No crank no turn. But I do hear a click when I try it. I guess the click is from the starter

Clicking means not enough juice, try jump starting it with another car or atleast get a volt reading

Its not like a click click click sound while im trying to crank it. when I turn it over the gauge goes away and the radio cuts off. Its just one little click and thats all.

Then your ground or power isn't properly sercured, check it again
Try turning it or poping it off, sometimes you might want to put a screw in it, sounds stupid but it works, happens all the time

Well still no luck. I did notice this. My car has a grounding kit and 3 of the wires arent connected.. 1 to the negative battery terminal, one to the intake manifold and one that connects to the kit it self.
Would this cause it not to start?

how did it go? did it work after you hooked up the grounding wires?

The grounding wires shouldn't effect the way it starts unless it is hooked into a harness
if you have a volt meter check the voltage on the battery and see what it is putting out
Did you try jumping it with a running car?
If so use a install guide on here and use it to double check the wireing...
it's a bitch but the fastest way that I can try to help you without actually being there.
Wireing sucks... Good luck!

Got an update.. I woke up this morning ready to get this car cranked.. but still no luck. I tried to jump start it and still the same. I hooked up all the wires to that ground kit base.. still nothing. I dont get it. I put the key in the ignition I see the 0MPH the time (it said 3oclock) and the cel setbelt and 2 other gauges light up the radio comes on. I went to crank and nothing to turn or anything. The 0MPH went away the radio turned off. and I noticed the clock reset back to 1oclock. I messed with the wires some more and still the same.

another update. I contacted the seller he told me this:" Check the clutch switch on the clutch pedal it thats not pushing in or plugged in it won't crank. and the fusable link in the relay box on the passanger side under the hood. check to see if you are getting power to the relay box. the only problem i had was a loose cable it did the same thing."
So i guess its for sure something electical. just gotta find out where. Im going to try to push start it in a little bit. trying to get my friend to come over with a truch. my drive way sucks so ill need his help. ill keep giving updates.

another update. I push started my car and it cranked right up.. which relays should I make sure if connected properly? for it to crank

Ok I re-read your post and lets go back to square one. it's probably somethign really simple. the fact that you got your car to start is great.
I should have asked a few questions first, did you check all of the wires from the accident?
If so check all of your fuses relays and just basically go throught the whole car till you find the culprit.
Again these are the things that if you had someone there they could probalby find alot faster in person. Post more pictures or a video of what the car is doing. it would give us a much better idea of whats going on.
USE THE FSM AS A GUIDE and trace your wires.
will take some time but again it is the fastest way not only to learn about your car but what is actually happening.
Again this is jsut a guess and what I would be starting with going by your post, it could just be a bad clutch switch also you also might just want to take that out and swap it.
But I assume you checked that when you brought that up in your pervious post...

I did check all the wires. Only wires that were messed up in the fog light wires. The battery was toasted. Honestly I think it has something to do with the clutch. The guy told me that in the past he had trouble with the clutch wire. Sometimes it wouldnt connect all the way and he had to mess with it to get it to work. also said that there used to be a short in the relay box (the one at the passenger side) I do need a FSM. I need to search for that.

Since your clock resets and all you hear is a click is telling me that you have a bad connection somewhere. Usually when this happens it is at the battery. But not always.
Make sure the connections on the battery are not corroded and tight. If that doesn't fix it try and trace the wires coming off of the battery and make sure all those connections are tight.

It only happened once. Now the time doesn't reset and the radio doesn't reset either. I got a brand new battery hand the connections are cleaned. I checked all the grounds it seemed good and tight. I think it maybe the starter or the starter relay. I didn't have time to test them out today.
The car can b push started Evey time. It just won't turn when u try to crank it.

Did you try to bypass the clutch switch? If you look at the clutch there's a switch that gets depressed when you push the clutch all the down. You can jump the 2 wires together to bypass it. If that fails then try hitting the starter and solenoid with something while trying to start it.

SHES ALIVE!!! It wasn't compressing the button hard enough. It cranks up now. I just gotta fix that button.. I guess tomorrow I'll do the bypass.

I kept telling my wife I know its something simple I know it is. Yesterday when I checked the clutch I must of over looked the fact that it doesn't engage that button all the way. I'm glad its a easy free fix instead of spending money on something major.
