View Full Version : Key turn ignition issue?????

Yes I have searched on this forum before posting. and I cant find my info help. so now im posting.

When cold starting. I have to turn the key ignition to on a few times before she cranks up. BUT..... if I don't pump the gas pedal she sounds like flooding out... and dies. I can save her only while pumping the gas continuously until she idles normal. after that no issues.

But why cant I just start her normally as I turn the key to on ignition part????

Is it my fuel inj. fuel pump. fuel filter???? please help.

BTW/ is a Blacktop sr20det (s14)

You should NEVER have to pump the pedal for your car to start. Sounds like it's getting fuel, but lacking spark or air... Change your plugs & make sure they are properly gapped. .030" IIRC.

Also couldn't hurt to clean your air filter.

Basic tune-up does wonders.

Umm....crazy you say this. I did a basic tune up today. NGK plugs gapped .030 and I have a new cone filter. and brand new valve C Gasket with new spark plug well gasket. I've covered this. No lie. just today.

Anyone else care to give more input on this issue.

Whats your fuel pressure at with car off and ign on? What does the car idle at once fully warmed up?

after car warms up it. idles just high 790-830. I have apexi rev reader. and its a smooth idle.

when I drive she still misfires allot. so im wondering if my coils need changing.

The car has FMIC and 3in exhaust piping with turbo manifold headers. It has tons of performance parts. I bought the car tunned. Im not sure if the motor is done. but the guys said it had forged pistons and rods. and pistons. all that stuff.

im wondering if I need to change to performance NGK sparks and a performance coil pack. like splitfire or okuda I think. let me know. if this makes sense.

Buying someones build is like dating a hot model with herpes. you hope you don't get it. lol. lol. :confused:

Yes since I bought it. To be honest bro im new to do this specially these engines and I have no clue???

I turn the key to start. she turns over and starts. but then dies. if I don't push the gas pedal in and pump it a few times until I get the rev up and she idles around 1800 and starts to come down to a smooth normal 700-800 idles. And I can leave the car like that for a good 5min warm up. and go drive around.

But I know this aint normal. she should just crank right up right????

And the media???? beats me. sorry...

Could be a bad IACV. My SR idles smoothly at 850rpm. You need NGK BK7RE coppers gapped to 0.036" (stock gap).

Thanks Killer for your advice. I don't think it is. It starts right up and then idles drops. unless I give gas then it idles beautiful. I have a SAFC controller on this car. and I just did some little resets on it. as a member on this site said they are bad for the SR. so I just opened my throttle to a recommended setting. Lo30% and Hi80%. And the car started up just fine with little gas pedal press.

But I will know more tomorrow morning as It will be a cold start. Im hoping it was that. since the throttle was really lo in %. ????

They told me my BKR6iex were fine. I gapped them 0.30. Missfires sound less loud than before the tune up. I don't know im just guess working here and trying to get lucky with someone posting exactly what I need.
I have a member here on the site. that will look at her very soon. So cant wait for member(slide_ways) to take her out for a spin and give me a diagnosis. :2f2f:

I stopped reading after that. You need to figure out exactly what your mods are, follow this thread to the letter: http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/196800-otterman-loks-safc-ii-install-guide.html , then get it tuned for real and all will be well.
