Hello guys,

Is there anyone who really tried the SR16VE N1 Cams with a turbo? I did search on the internet and I just heard rumor about N1 having to much overlap for a turbo... I could get a good deal on a set of SR16 N1 cams so I wonder if they would be any good.

I will be running a fully built SR20DET with VET piston and a GT35 .63 AR... It threw 2 rocker arms and now I'm going VVL but I'm not sure the stock 20ve cams are good enough. My goal would be to achieve 550+ whp (I had 505 with my DET head @ 25 PSI)

Here are the specs on all the VE cams.

VE cam specs - SR20 Forum (http://www.sr20forum.com/neovvl-guides/69301-ve-cam-specs.html)

I did check on an overlap calculator and SR16VE have an overlap of 70 deg. on high lobes, and N1 have 74deg on high lobes. I will also be running adjustable cam gear so I can tweek the timing. I can't check the SR20ve overlap as I am lacking the timing event...

Which one should be the best according to you?

Thank you!

Frank

Here's some more info I found :

VVL CAMS
OE SR20VE cams
Low lobe INTAKE - .331" (8.4) LIFT /220º DUR - Low lobe EXHAUST -.260" (6.6) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - 0º

High lobe INTAKE - .421" (10.7) LIFT /264º DUR - High lobe EXHAUST -.407" (10.34) LIFT / 268º DUR - OVERLAP - 48º

OE SR16VE:
Low lobe INTAKE - .279" (7.1) LIFT / 200º DUR - Low lobe EXHAUST - .313" (7.95) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - 0º

High lobe INTAKE - .437" (11.1) LIFT / 280º DUR - High lobe EXHAUST - .437" (11.1) LIFT / 280º DUR - OVERLAP - 70º

OE SR16VE N1:
Low lobe INTAKE - .331" (8.4) LIFT / 220º DUR - Low lobe EXHAUST -.313" (7.95) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - 0º

High lobe INTAKE - .472" (12.0) LIFT / 288º DUR - High lobe EXHAUST -.469" (11.9) LIFT / 288º DUR - OVERLAP - 74º

OE SR20VE 20V:
Low lobe INTAKE - .398" (10.11) LIFT /228º DUR - Low lobe EXHAUST - .327" (8.3) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - ---º

High lobe INTAKE - .472" (12.0) LIFT /278º DUR - High lobe EXHAUST - .439" (11.15) LIFT / 280º DUR - OVERLAP - 57º

OE SR20VET:
Low lobe INTAKE - .315" (8.0) LIFT / 212º DUR - Low lobe EXHAUST -.445" (11.3) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - 0º

High lobe INTAKE - .433" (11.0) LIFT / 248º DUR - High lobe EXHAUST (LOW Lobe is used) -.445" (11.3) LIFT / 244º DUR - OVERLAP - 13º

It doesn't seem so for bad for N1 if we take in consideration that the stock SR20VE as 48deg of Overlap and it's a good cam for turbo...

Also, if I reduce the overlap it's gonna affect the low lobe also, what could happen with negative overlap (both valves getting close for let's say 4-8 Deg)

Anyone can help please? :)

Thank you,

Frank

N1 cams will cause the valves to hit the pistons, but if you have VET pistons you might be okay?

Yes I do have CP VET pistons so it will clear the valves.

theres been tons of discussions of this over on sr20-forums, everyone says that for turboed cars the p12 20v cams are the best.. if you want to spend the money you might call mazworx and ask them, they would know better than anyone.. if youre only shooting for 550 i would think the stock 20ve cams would be plenty though
