Ah, I know this has been covered hundreds of times but I have a 92 hatch with a ka24de and im getting a bad rattle. Do you guys think taking the chain guide out would be a good idea? Thanks so much in advance.

Doesnt that just makes the rattling more quiet but doesnt actually fix it. Many people take off the guides and its supposed to do the job. I've never done it because i have a sohc which i believe is different to take off then the dual cams.
Try doing it yourself before something really bad happens to your engine.

a temporary fix would be thicker oil.....

True dat, thats what im doing which i feel guilty because i need to stop being lazy and just get it fixed. Sorry if im thread jacking, but what about single cams is it the same as the dual cams on removing the guides, i cant find write up on ka24e's.

even after you replace the timming chain guides inlcuding the lower guides it will still make a little bit of "rattle" it is a Timming chain , made out of some type of metal . it will make noise

New chain? I heard that the timing chain stretches overtime.

no he has a point.. its the same with bike chains... over time and wear the metal in which the chain is made of warps a tad over heat and stress thus creating space between each link which makes noise.... no engine is silent but a new chain and a tad bit thicker oil will do the trick.... as for the sr swap how long were you planning on waiting to do such a thing? if its a month or two then just do the thicker oil treatment because in the end riding the motor to the ground wont matter and youll be able to spend the cash you have on the new motor (sr) any longer then you should replace the chain.... you never mentioned a motor swap in the future bro...

Well future for me is about next summer http://www.pic4ever.com/images/vahidrk.gif. Im pretty broke at the moment..I've only had this one for a month and so far I just put on some Drop Engineering Coilovers. So I was thinking CX racing turbo kit for the Ka or Sr depending how my money is next summer lol. http://www.pic4ever.com/images/cowboypistol.gif

well you need to sit down and think which route you really want to go....if its KA-T then start with a new block or rebuild the one you have to handle boost (this includes the timing chain as well) stock it can handle boost but not for very long and youll end up grenading the engine:doh:
if you want the sr then save up and do minor maintinece... the chain is just a noise but if you baby your car and not go rev happy then itll last you till the summer time.... any hp goals?

Sorry for the late reply but yeah if your motor has a lot of miles on it like mine 190k then a new chain is a good idea. Thats what I'm doing now
