Hey,
I'm sure the question of engine management has been brought up many times here. I have used the search function but haven't be able to find a whole lot.
I'm currently looking for options to tune my S13 redtop.
Mods include fully forged bottom end with 88mm pistons and 256 cams (I know pretty small, this might be fixed with solid lifters in the future) and a twin scroll GTX3071R as well as ID1000 injectors. I had the exhaust manifold built with a O2 bung in each runner as well. I have been told enough times that this is over the top so no need to expand on that.
So what it comes down to for me is that I have to travel to get the car tuned and depending on what system I get I might be trailering the car 1100mi for tuning.
Right now I'm debating one of three engine management systems.
1) AEM Infinity (If I can find someone to pin the ecu plug and make the SR run with it)
2)AEM EMS Series 2
3) Haltech Platinum Sport 1000
Willing to hear any experience anyone has had with any of the 3. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Thanks

Go for the haltech. I can't be more pleased with mine. I am running the E8 and not the platinum series though. Plus the haltech has patch loom harnesses that allows the ecu to connect to your original ecu connector. All you have to wire is the map sensor and the air temp sensor. The software is pretty easy to use as well.

Do you have a deep pocket?

Depends how deep you're talking. I've spent plenty of money on the listed mods so I'm not looking for the cheapest solution. I'm looking for opinions on the management systems in an attempt to make an informed decision. No need for someone to tell me one or the other sucks unless they have information to back it up.
As for wiring, the Infinity is the only one I would need to have any custom wiring done to make it work.
Flexibility is always nice as you never know what will come out next.

if you are looking for the cheapest solution, out of the 2 then AEM.

i use aem v.1, but it depends on what your tuner recommends and can tune. here in oregon, PSI can tune Motec, Haltech, AEM, and PFC. they have 2 amazing tuners, so i could get any of the versons. I went with AEM because it was cheaper than motec/haltech and better than PFC.

In the past Haltech had better CAS resolution than AEM, however I'm not sure if that still stands. A lot of Haltech's development was based around Nissan engines and factory sensors. I personally like haltech over AEM and currently have a PS2000

Thanks for your input guys.
Anyone know of someone running Vi-Pec? I can only find info on it on dealer websites. It doesn't seem like many people use it for SRs from what I can tell. The reason I ask is because the tuner closest to me prefers to use Vi-Pec but says he has experience in tuning whatever I take to him. A friend is running it on his Evo 3 and is pleased with it so far.

definitely haltech. went from a pfc to haltech because i had cold start issues with pfc. haltech started the car first try at 0c. haltech customer service is also quite impressive with extremely knowledgeable people who can help get things setup before you go get tuned. vipec is really expensive for what you get in the sr20 application, better going with link (same company just cheaper). i wouldnt go with either though; before i got the haltech i had tried a link plugin that arrived doa to my door bnib. link refused to warranty a bnib doa ecu. luckily i got a refund from the merchant but it was a hassle.

for tuning i highly recommend driving an extra hour to calgary and have toma tune your car on his dynodynamics dyno. he has a 11 second silvia that runs a disco potato turbo (at 3500+ feet) he knows how to tune the sr20 engine well.

What shop is he at? Looking at the specs for the Haltec and the Vi-pec I don't see much difference in the detail other then the 4bar internal map sensor. They both run around the same price as well. Driving the extra hour isn't a problem at all, I was actually thinking about putting the car on a trailer and taking it to Drift Office down in Washington (roughly 1800km)
Only shops I know of in Alberta that do dyno tuning are Light Speed, Vex, and Calgary Autoworks. I'm sure we have more though.

Local is a relative term. I'm going to be travelling to get it tuned so that means I have some options. I can choose the tuner and the engine management based on some feed back that I get.
I appreciate all the positive feedback for the different engine management systems.
