Hey guys, Just swapped in a stock redtop into an s14 (95). I used a new wiring specialties upper and lower harness, checked it 3 times before install. I have a battery relocation to the trunk and the battery negative is grounded to the spare tire stud in the center. Ok now the problem
1st Question: When I plugged what I'm pretty damn sure was everything up, I didnt get ANY power anywhere. I blew the battery fuse "FL". I then checked my wiring once more after calling wiring specialties and they said jump the fuse for a moment with the lights on and watch for signs of life...all I got was smoke from the connection. I know its a ground but what is the most common? Should I add a ground from the intak manifold to the chassis? Its grounded through the harness already but maybe its not enough. Whats going on?
2nd Question: I have a gas tank FULL of 87 octane fuel. I already swapped my fuel pump for a walbro 255. Will I be ok for this tank or should I add some octane booster? Or go through the pain or replacing all the fuel? FML Thanks guys.

87 octane should be fin I just start it up.
How many grounds do u have? When having the battery relocated it's recommended to have at least two.
Also check grounds on the wiring. The ones by the coilpack harness, alternator, and starter.
EDIT*

I just read this. Yes ground the block to the chassis, the battery ground is not enough.

Really shudnt use any octane booster, and do not try to drive and boost with that 87.
Honestly if i were you id drain what i could and put 91 in. Give the 87 to family or friends.
Im not sure about the stock ITM, but i have a fat ground coming off my freddy ITM to my chassis.

Never, ever, EVER use octane booster. SR's & RB';s hate it- one tank of gas, car will run great for most of it... The it will run like ass on account of cooked plugs. This is experience talking- trust me.
Just run the 87 out & use 91-93 from here on out.

Thanks guys Ill try making a few fat grounds when I get home. I havent even gotten to crank my motor yet lol. As for the fuel, I guess Ill get my power back then get a long fuel line and start priming fuel into gas cans and sell it off lol. I have fuses on order should be here today or tomorrow. Is a jumper wire safe for now or might I fry the ecu or something?

Just be mindful that smoke can also be causes from a short in something you did outside of the wiring specialties harness. I know the W/S harnesses are tested so I doubt there is an issue there.
When you relocated the battery, did you cover all extra power connections up? Nothing crazy touching or just barely grounding out?
In regard to the fuel, if it's your first time running the engine/driving it, leave it in there and just burn it up. This will work to your favor as it will force you to drive the car/shake the car down before you go out and beat on it/boost it. Sounds funny, but trust me...it'll work in your favor as the last thing you wanna do is chase issues if the car is boosting as you'll not want to stop driving it :D

Which one is the FL fuse? Thats not the main 100 amp fuse right?

just get that fuse in first before you do all that work... I just blew a battery fuse myself

So the final verdict for the blown fuses was that i didnt have a non conductive spacer between the positive and the alternator shell thus shorting it out. And as far as the weak sauce gas, I just threw in some octane booster. worked great

Most of the time when you're blowing the main fuse on the car, its almost always something with the alternator.
