Ok so I just bought this 1997 Nissan 240 and when I bought it I knew the fuel gauze wasn't working but wasn't sure why. So today I pulled the top junction plate and lock ring off... Reached in the tanks and removed the fuel pump and sending unit ( what a pain in the ass!) so finally I get it out and see 2 things that automatically catch my eye. 1. There was a broken wire which looked to be a ground that was soldered to the side of what looked to be a resistor (black wire) and 2. There were 2 plugs for the fuel sending unit and only one of them was plugged into something, was this done from factory so the sending unit could be used for 2 different cars? I don't see this being the case.

Can some one tell me what the tan 3 wire plug is supposed to go to? The black plug goes to the bottom of the plastic circle plate, but the tan 3 wire plug I can't seem to figure it out? Thanks in advance...

I just saw mine within the last two months, Im pretty sure I attached both connections. You couldnt find another harness in the tank?

Fuel Sending Units on S14 are notoriously bad. They either don't work, OR give's false reading...will say EMPTY when 1/4 tank of gas still left.

Best bet is to find someone local to you so you can look at the wiring in their car to see what goes where. If I recall correctly, the locking cap on the gas tank is supposed to be a male plug where the sending unit inside the gas tank clips into. You should see another harness outside the gas tank that plugs into the OUTER portion of the locking cap. If everything is plugged up as it should be, then you should be getting a signal out of the gas tank from the fuel sending unit PROVIDED the sender unit works AND the gauge on the dash board isn't burnt out / broken.

I hate troubleshooting electrical problems....they are always a pain in the ass!!

Good luck!!

Hi There,

Can you tell me how you removed the sending unit? The fuel pump just slid out, but the sender doesn't move. The FSM says "slide it horizontally to the left." It won't budge.

Another site states that you have to remove a clip. I can't find any clip...
