I recently installed a new clutch in my 1996 240sx. The clutch is great, grabs instantly and holds fine, sometimes when i start her up, if i immediately put in reverse or 1st and let the clutch out to begin my movement it will make a weird whining noise. Other than that its perfect, maybe the throwout bearing is bad??

My problem im posting about is that when im cruising in any gear at any speed, and i barely press the gas, not enough to accelerate even just barely press it, i hear a grinding or chattering from near the front or from the gear shift. It sounds like something is spinning rubbing on something or another, its beginning to drive me crazy, the car drives fine, if i dog it, it runs fine no noise or anything, just when i barelyyyyy press the gas, i didnt know if anyone here could help me out, ive looked around everywhere for this issue and im not getting any results, greatly appreciate any posts or comments as to what this is, thanks

Depends on the clutch if its normal or not.

What type of clutch did you replace with? Stock for stock?

When you replaced the clutch, did you replace the TOB, sleeve & pilot bushing? Sounds like a bad or incorrect pilot bushing.

I replaced the stock clutch with another OEM equivalent clutch from autozone, it was a Duralast i believe, Mikester, i did not replace this pilot bushing or sleeve, just replaced the TOB, If i remember back correctly, it has always made the noise slightly, but now it is pretty loud, -- my girlfriend asked me what was wrong with my car hahaha. I do have the pilot bushing that came with the kit

why would you go through the trouble of dropping the transmission and not replacing the pilot bushing?

there are a couple reasons, 1. Women, 2. It was my first time ever doing a clutch job. and i didnt think that my pilot bushing was bad, nor knew how to tell. I was in a rush to get it done so i could drive my car cause i was having girl probs lol but enough with the life story, i will never make that same mistake again, as i dread dropping it out again.
