About 3 weeks ago I was going down the road, no problems. All of a sudden, the car just up and dies. Pull over, glance at everything, try to start, no fuel pump priming. Swap fuel pups with my spare Walbro, still nothing.

Get it towed home, check the fuses and relays to make sure they're good and they are. Test the fuel pumps just in case, both are fine. Pop open the ECU, blown trace on pin 36.

I know that pin is labeled for the "ignition switch" but I don't full understand what that entails and I was told that I can get a new ECU, but it will probably blow the trace again.

I'm hoping someone has some insight as to why it blew, maybe someone else has had the same issue or has an idea on what I should do.

Any help would be appreciated!
It's an blacktop in an 89 coupe, E5 ECU if that's any help.

Sometimes they just go bad. Happened to me. One day randomly the fuel pump stopped working. Replaced my fuel pump, problem still remained. At that point I knew it was the ECU. So I swapped out another and its been working ever since (couple years now). I never opened the old ECU to see what the problem was I just threw it in the trash, LOL.

Well, I guess there's no sense in torturing myself going through the harnesses to try and find a short. IF the new one dies, then I guess I'll torture myself.

Thanks for the insight! Any new knowledge is good knowledge lol.

This is usually a sign that you have a power going straight to ground somewhere on the engine harness. I've seen this from people wiring MAFs up wrong, mis-matching wires on the main engine harness, etc. You have a 12v wire going to ground somewhere. . .

Is there any quick easy way to figure out if that's the case? It'd been running fine since June last year, which is what makes no sense to me that it just straight up died.
