I just want your honest opinion on if I should buy this motor or not. I have a friend that has an Sr for sale for 1200 with pretty much everything to make it swap. Preliminary findings have discovered that the has low compression cylinder 1 60-90
Cylinder 2 130
Cylinder 3&4 60-90
Since this has came out he said he will sell it to me for 600. My concern is it seems like someone got boost greedy and blew the motor. He received this motor from someone. With the intentions of using it but financial difficulties have change the situation and he needs money. My concern is if there is any major damage. Scoring on the wall I could check with a boreoscope(excuse my spelling) and I could perform a leak down test to find where exactly the compression is going. The motor will need a full rebuild probably. Seals, gaskets, rings, maybe even timing components, water pump oil pump the whole 9 yards. My question is is it worth it? My single cam is dying lol. Please respond thanks for reading

you figure buying the motor for 600$ and spending another 1,500$ in parts and labor to bring it back to health, or just pick up one for 1,500 - 1,800 even off ebay or a local shop that stocks them. remember you need intercooler piping, bov, and to make a oil feed and return line.

so calculate that incase 2 or 3 cylinders are dead, how much will you spend in parts and labor to fix it, and is it worth it to spend 200 or 300 more dollars for something already complete.

Dont expect to get a healthy SR without rebuilding it, wether you buy it from a friend or not. This one looks like it has suffered though. Financial difficulties are making him selling a blown engine ? I kind of dont believe it.

you need to check for damages before paying for anything ... if it had the usual camshaft spraybars blocked with gunk, the whole head is gone, so it is not worth more than a heavy paperweight.

If the head is ok and the bloc is not cracked, get some money ready... because a rebuild cost is around 3000, not 1500, and i am quite not sure you get a turbo with that kind of money - nor a lot of labor (cleaning/ decking / controlling head & block would be included, but thats it)

$600 ain't bad for a full swap that needs rings.

If it just need rings, yes. If it needs a new head or a complete stripping, then no.

I would be doing the labor myself and its coming with fmic bov piping harness everything to swap

Well, assuming everything else is good on it like flywheel, clutches and other supporting mod, it could be a deal. But the hindsight is, you can probably still get S13 engine sets for $1300-1500.
