V8 VH45DE Engine Only Rotates 90 Degrees

About to drop this spare motor in and now it only wants to rotate 90 degrees. At first I was thinking it was a single valve issue but thats not possible since theres only 90 degrees of rotation. I'm thinking the timing chain skipped some teeth since I didnt have the left bank tensioner on which is causing the valves in cylinders 2,4,6,8 to strike the piston. I still doubt that though cause I dont think the chain would have been that loose without the tensioner there. I'm posting this to see if anyone can think of something I haven't. Any input is appreciated :)

yup, without the tensioner it jumps teeth like trash.. it took me like 5 hours to set my timing on the VH.. take your time, and it all goes together fairly easy.

just remember, there are timing marks for everything on that engine.. make sure its all lined up.

What did you use as a reference? The FSM says that there's marks on the chain but mine are gone.
