My SR is making a whine when you first turn it on from a cold start. I noticed it last year around this time. It only does it when the motor is cold for a few seconds after start up then it goes away. When the motor is warmed up you can turn it off and back on and there is no whine. I have included a video *note* the knock you hear is actually the hood vibrating. To me it sounds like its coming from the turbo. It's an S13 SR with an S15 T28 Turbo.

Hard to say, could be a worn or old belt, maybe a bearing in the alternator/power steering etc etc. Could be anything.

you could remove all the belts first to help narrow it down

I hear a few things trying to listen past that hood, I get a sucking kind of whistle sound. Is that what you're talking about? That sounds like the BOV maybe? Could be turbo. Well time to play elimidate!

Thanks for the input everyone. cotbu: To me it sounds like a whine, you can clearly hear the sound I'm describing at :12 seconds. The weird thing is that it only does it when the weather gets cold out and from a cold start. When the weather is warm it does not do it not even when sitting over night. Could the oil be too thick to pass through the turbo for winter weather? I'm using 10w40..
