Ever since my friend Finn took me for a ride in his S14/S14 at 10psi I was hooked. "MAN this thing must have 400 horsepower!" I said, He just laughed. "power weight ratio my friend, Its only got 250!"
Good times. Now follow me into the abyss of color.
OEM components that live for a good long time on daily driver sr20det cars.
#1. Biggest thing I've noted is oil changes are necessary more often than 3000 miles. More like 1500 miles.
#2. side mount intercoolers and 8psi on T-25 turbos. Front mounts and 11psi on T-28's.
#3. OEM exhaust system, always
#4. Recirculated Type-S or HKS on the hot pipe
#5. Trap 102-105 please. Surprise!
#6. VLSD or HLSD for longevity. Use the OEM driveshaft is possible. It bends!
#7. Do not touch the internals. Dont even pull the valvecover if you can help it. Cleanliness is king, watch when you do an oil change that grains of sand do not enter the engine. It makes a difference!!!
#8. To accompany #7, Replace all PCV equipment and vacuum check (leak test) the PCV system!
And last...
Keep a baggy handy with all of the easy to replace items (rockers/shims/starters/alternators/waterpumps/longblocks/turbos/etc... )
Yep. Last time my longblock went out on the highway, I just reached down into my little baggy I keep in the back seat, and WHAM! I was driving again in a matter of minutes.
be safe

What the hell is this crap?
#1. If you need to change oil every 1500 miles you are probably using shitty conventional oil driving the piss out of the car at the track... Synthetic is king. 10w-30 weight is standard, a little variance depending on your climate.
#2. Side mount intercoolers are never a good idea for long. When I first swapped in my SR (fully rebuilt all stock) with side mount, it still would get heatsoak. FMIC is a must.
#3. OEM exhaust? Hell no. We have 240sx's. Which come with 140 or 155 HP N/A motors. If swapping to an SR20DET, the exhaust system also needs to change to reflect the power increase.
#4. There are plenty of BOV's that are capable of doing the same things. Recirculate if you are not tuned for atmospheric.
#5. ...
#6. VLSD or HLSD for more control, better overall driving experience. OEM driveshafts work but the two piece design is a pain to remove and install. I prefer a one piece aluminum unit.
#7. Don't touch the internals? Don't pull the valvecover? Sure if you don't know what you are doing. But these motors are capable of a lot. With a knowledgable mechanic anything can be done.
#8. Replace when items no longer operate as they should per FSM specifications. Just like ANYTHING else with the motor...
Just thought I'd let you know how worthless this thread is.
Thanks for playing.

Jesus your a fucking idiot. Go post this on a local forum not a site that has SR,RB, and VQ motor gear heads. OEM exhaust? Wtf are you smoking? Yeah let's run a 1 1/4in exhaust on a turbo motor that's 100hp more than a damn truck motor KA.

I have to break your conception a little bit, more like bend it really. The OEM exhaust on our S14 240sx is identical to the OEM exhaust on the S14 Silvia. Which, uh, *cough 280 horsepower.
OEM ftw

So don't pop the valve cover? Are you on crack? How would you know the condition of the engine if your not gonna at least pop the valve cover and drop the oil pan? I'd like to at least make sure the pan doesn't have gold in it and make sure the cam oil squirters are not clogged.

The last time I popped my valve cover all the bolts striped and I had to throw the whole engine in the trash.

Step 1-Plant feet firmly on ground
Step 2-remove heads from each others asses
Step 3-Place rubber bands around testicles to prevent future breeding.
