Hey guys, I don't usually turn to forums for help but this is an issue I really can't seem to figure out. I have an s13 se coupe that I completely tore town to an absolute bare shell, did body / frame work and put back together but I didn't have a motor so I decided to throw in my friends 5spd KA24E from his 89 coupe into the car. I've done sohc to dohc swaps before, so I figured everything would be reversed install wise, which for the most part it is.
The engine was torn down to the block by myself, I replaced the oil pump, timing chain, head gasket and head studs along with new intake and exhaust gaskets when I put it back together. I timed the engine by vertically lining up the lines on the cam and crank so that they were both facing straight up. I also deleted all of the egr stuff except the butterfly valves in the intake, which the actuator is connected to a vacuum source before the throttle body opening - which is where it shoes the vacuum source come from in the service manual as well.
The car also has a 255lph fuel pump from having an sr a while back.
Now the issue I'm facing is really strange.. The car cranks and runs but will not idle. I can rev it all the way to the limiter without issues, but it will just idle really rough when I let off the throttle then it dies.
I've tried playing with timing adjustment on the distributor, I've cleaned the ignition coil plug, and the dizzy and plug wire connectors, I cleaned the maf, played with the idle screw and the car runs the same no matter what I do, except messing with timing but adjusting it crazily causes the car to run terrible for the short time it runs.
Another thing I've noticed is if I give the motor a quick rev, it will idle for like 5 to 10 seconds, although a little rough, and then it will die.
I have checked everywhere for vacuum leaks by spraying starter fluid all over the intake manifold to hear a change in engine rpm, but no leaks - and I made sure to do all my intake gaskets right so that doesn't surprise me.
Any ideas? I'm lost and I'd like my car to run..
