I have a s14 silvia with s15 specR turbo and full exhaust from the turbo back. other than that the car is completely stock engine wise. I have a power fc but can't afford a tune at this moment of life. wondering if it will make any more power difference if i install the power fc on the factory tune it comes with.
opinions would be greatly appreciated, except for those kids that have nothing good to say!
thanks

I think the stock settings are for initial startup only meant really only to get it rolling on its own power to help with getting it loaded up on a dyno so it can be tuned. I wouldn't run it with the PFC's stock settings and I think apex advises against it as well. Might as well get a good wideband and the fc datalogit for it too. That way you can learn to tune it yourself and save you the money/trouble of having to pay someone else to do it every time you buy new parts in the future. My datalogit just came yesterday so I'm looking forward to learning all of this myself. But I had a bad tune on my PFC about a year ago which eventually led to destroyed ring lands and a rebuild. Paid about $550 for roughly 5 hours of tuning and it runs a lot better but still needs some refinement. Nature of the beast. But $400-600 tune to get it running right vs. $2,000 for a complete rebuild kit not including labor if you take it to someone to build it for you is worth it IMO.

i dont know why everyone things tuning is some voodoo act? if you have a wideband and know how to adjust the pfc and know what afr you need when, the stock map will be fine provided you have enough injector to meet the fuel requirements. you will need 94/93 octane and probably need to remove timing from certain areas under spool up/early boost to prevent knocking wot. the pfc will let you know if its knocking. its funny how after i had tuned my pfc with the 3071 on how closely it resembled the stock apexi map for the stock turbo.

You'll be fine running on the stock tune. Apex'i was smart and made their base map friendly to just about any setup. If the injectors are stock, along with the MAF, put Power FC in and drive around.
Stay out of boost and don't drive like a dickhead until you get a tune. Daily driving is fine, just make sure you keep the engine load to a minimal.
Also, tuning is straight voodoo to those who have not a clue on whats going on. You can't afford a tune, so really I doubt you could afford another motor.

It's not a voodoo act, but you need to know what you're doing. And while it's not rocket science, it's a little more involved then just adjusting timing. And driving a car around on shitty tune is not a good idea regardless if you stay out of boost. Running rich is just as detrimental as running lean. Keep in mind that advice on forums should be taken with a grain of salt, nothing on here is carved in stone.

Or you can get with Steve Shadows and pay for his PFC settings. He will walk you thru on setting it up. Figured this is one of the most common setups out there so the base line he'd have would be better than the base tune.

Thanks for the input guys.. think ill just save my pennies until I have enough for a proper tune. I'm not messing around with something I have never used or even seen operated with.
