Hey guys, I am not sure what is going on with my car and was wondering to get some input. I own a 1995 240sx with an sr20det engine. Yesterday I was driving it and decided to push it a little. When I pushed it from first to second gear. The car just idled at around 2000 rpm. When I put it into neutral, the car just turned off. When I started it again, the rpm kept fluctuating and eventually just turn off. When I was driving it home, when I am in first gear, it would only reach a certain speed and then not exceed it and the exhaust would just do some kind of puffing noise, even if I put my foot all the way down, it would maintain that speed. When I go to second gear it would go a little faster and stay at a certain speed, all the way to fifth gear. At times, my friend who was tailing me said black smoke would come out of the exhaust. This problem happened before, but eventually went away when I put gas in. I decided to try it again but no luck. Can you guys give me some inputs on what is going on?? Thanks so much!

Black smoke is indicative of running rich. Check your plugs, if they are black you have a fueling issue. Check timing, base fuel pressure, and for any boost/vacuum leaks, then report back.
