so i got this super clean zenki 5spd (my little pic) on the dirt cheap tip. it wasnt running and had been sitting for quite some time. put a new battery in it, replaced belts, starter, changed the oil, new rad., hoses, flushed system, and topped of fluids off. cranked up and drove like a dream. engine pulls great but there are 2 sounds im hearing that bring concern. i think the first is coming from my injectors. its a constant ticking sound that sounds like a hard piece of plastic hitting against a solid piece of metal at a fast rate (just a sound comparison). the second sound is coming from under the front of the rocker cover right next to the oil cap. it sounds like metal on metal and at lower rate than the sound coming from the injectors. i mean it seriously sounds like something loose kind of flapping. both sounds are at a constant speed acceleration or not and seem to not be affecting any performance. yeah and if a shut the hood you can even hear either.

bump. from my research im figuring the second sound could possibly be the timing chain guide but im not 100%. if so what kind of job is it to get to it and take it off

Yeah if your upper timing chain guide is still there then that would probably be it, if not it could be your valve lash and may need to get it adjusted. It isn't that hard to take the upper chain guide off, all you need to do is just remove the valve cover and you should see the guide on top between the intake and exhaust cam sprockets. I forget what size bolts they are but there are two to remove that piece. Also when removing the valve cover be careful not to damage the valve cover gasket, but I'd just replace it anyway. Now if it's valve lash then it's gonna be a bit harder. I'd take a look at a factory service manual or google it on how to adjust valve lash.
