My ka with 186xxx on it has been burning oil lately (a quart a month)..the only time it burns is when the car is either cold or warm, at a stop light for the amount of time until it turns green and I give it gas to get the car moving. It just puffs out some once it starts rolling then once I'm cruising It's fine. I have a feeling and from reading around it could be my piston rings, what else could it be. I just want the car to run fine until I save up for a sr. Thanks for the help. Oh and I have intake and a cat back, running 15w-40 diesel oil

If it really is only burning oil right when you leave a stop light its most likely your valve stem seals. If its making a puff of smoke when you leave, and then the wind conceals the smoke that your car is still producing as you pick up speed (which is more likely), its probably the rings. If its burning that much oil its time for a rebuild, are you sure there's not a leak somewhere?

Positive its not a leak, never found any oil spots under my car. I thought of rebuilding it then boosting it but then I thought to myself it'll be easier to swap for a sr..I'm pretty sure its only when I take off because I would've lost a lot more in a month. I do a lot of stop and go around my town lol

Do a compression check...anything less than 150 psi and its a dead KA. Drop a cap full of oil and if it jumps up 20-30 psi, then rings are bubye. My KA is doing the same exact thing and I'm sitting at 140-145psi. Having a slowly dying HG isnt helping either.

last time I did a compression check they were 175/180 in the first 3 and the last one was 165/170
